Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship at St Mary's RC Primary School
We are seeking a Teaching and Learning Assistant to join our happy, thriving and successful primary school in Battersea, to provide support for pupils working in the Foundation Stage.
Apprenticeship Summary:
* Salary: £6.40 an hour, in April the Apprenticeship salary will increase to £7.55 an hour
* Automatic pay increase after one year on programme for 19+ year olds
* Working week: Monday - Friday 8:30 AM till 4 PM with a 30-minute lunch break
* Hours: 35 hours per week
* Expected duration: 18 months
* Online apprenticeship training supported by our skilled tutors
* Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship standard qualification
* Location: 7 St Josephs Street Battersea, London, SW8 4EN
Duties:
As part of this role, you will work under the direction of a teacher or line manager to support individual pupils or small groups. Your responsibilities will include supervising the physical and general care of pupils, including those with SEN, supporting their access to learning, and assisting the teacher in managing the classroom and pupils effectively.
We are looking for someone with good levels of English and Maths, experience working with children with SEN, and excellent communication skills to engage with colleagues, parents, and professionals. Most importantly, we’re seeking someone with a genuine passion for working with children and supporting their development in early years and key stages.
Experience:
* Working with or caring for children of relevant age
Specific requirements:
* Good levels of English and Maths.
* Basic knowledge of first aid.
* Ability to use basic technology (e.g., computers, video equipment, photocopiers).
* Strong communication skills to effectively interact with colleagues, parents, and other professionals.
* Ability to build positive relationships with children and adults.
* Passion and commitment to working with children to support their development, particularly in early years.
* Ability to work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities.
* Awareness of and commitment to the school’s equal opportunities policy and its implementation.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
The successful candidate will obtain a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship standard qualification.
Each apprentice will have their own dedicated tutor who will conduct monthly remote tutorials and reviews, providing continuous support throughout the apprenticeship program. Depending on the apprentice’s needs, the frequency of these sessions may vary.
