Every childhood is worth fighting for. This is our belief. It drives us. And it's the reason our People team push themselves to equip and support our staff and volunteers to play the biggest part they can. Join us as a Family Engagement Worker, and help our people do work that means everything.
Key Responsibilities:
* Do you have lived experience of care and/or support from services such as social work, either as an adult or as a child?
* Could you help us improve relationships between families and support services in your local area?
* Would you like to be a part of a new service working differently to support families with young children?
* Lived experience can include things such as having a social worker involved personally with you as a parent or when you were a child. This personal lived experience is essential for this role and applicants who meet this, and the person specification criteria will be shortlisted for an interview.
We are looking to appoint a Family Engagement Worker with lived experience of care and/or support from services. We will support you to draw upon your own experience to promote best practice and help families access Infant, Parent Support. This role would be suitable for a person with good communication skills, who is solution-focused and keen to provide a high-quality experience for families.
This is an exciting opportunity to use your own knowledge and personal experience of involvement with social workers and/or services to influence and achieve change to make a positive difference for others and improve outcomes for children.
NSPCC are developing a new service to improve the mental health of infants and young children. Collaborating with the University of Glasgow and funded by What Works in Children's Social Care, the project will trial a new service called Infant, Parent Support (IPS). This neuro-diverse and poverty-informed service will test whether outcomes for families with infants under 5 who have a social worker can be improved by offering a relationship-based intervention at an earlier stage.
The Family Engagement Workers will be embedded within the multi-disciplinary (social workers, mental health professionals and other support workers) teams working with families based in either Bromley or Glasgow. As an integral and highly valued member of the team, the Family Engagement Worker, informed by their own experiences of working with services, will provide support and practical assistance to families, helping them to focus on achievable goals using a strengths-based approach. In particular, the Family Engagement Worker will enhance the relationships between professionals and families through working with parents and caregivers, to promote choice and opportunities to enable families to feel connected and valued in their assessment and support plan.
Join us and you will become part of a team who care about the work we do and the people we work with. You will discover opportunities for growth, along with challenges and a shared purpose that will bring the best out in you. This is an exciting opportunity to be innovative, make a difference that means more, and impact young lives.
Visits to the team are also welcome and encouraged upon prior arrangement.
If you would like an informal discussion about the role, please contact Berenice Hughes – Family Engagement Lead on 07518900959 or Sherma Charles – Team Manager on 07814255345.
Flexible working considered and discussions welcomed about contracted hours as these could be adapted to suit your needs (for example 16 hours instead of 17.5 hours).
