About this opportunity
We are seeking a self-motivated leader who can successfully lead our Plant Management team of skilled and experienced individuals, ensuring efficient communication between all departments.
The role of Plant Manager heads up our beverage cans and ends manufacturing site in Botcherby, near Carlisle. The position reports to the Regional Manufacturing Director for northern Europe.
The plant runs as a 24/7 operation. Planned Ends volume for 2025 is 6 billion rising to over 8 billion with planned investment and having 3 can lines installed, our capacity is in excess of 1.5 billion with potential to grow further.
The Plant Manager is responsible for the efficient management of plant KPIs and plant employees, working in line with objectives set by the VP Operations and communicated by the Manufacturing Director. Typical KPIs include output, working capital, efficiency, quality & customer satisfaction, and ensuring that the highest safety standards are established and maintained.
The Plant Manager sets an example to all employees, ensuring that Crown policies on ethics are understood and respected.
Main responsibilities
* Ensure that the plant is run and managed in a manner that Safety, HR, Environment, Quality, Production, Engineering and Cost Control goals are met
* Develop and successfully execute plans to deliver all Plant KPI’s
* Plan, organise, direct and run optimum day-to-day operations and allocate resources effectively
* Be a driving force in the Safety culture ensuring that all policies and regulations are followed and continuously improved
* Lead, mentor, and coach direct reports
* Build and maintain a trusting relationship with employees; communicate and regularly feedback on performance expectations
* Prepare budgets, RFCs and monitor and explain any plant cost variances
Required Education and Experience
* Degree qualified Mechanical or Industrial Engineer
* NVQ level 3 in mechanical / mechatronic engineering
* 5+ years in a manufacturing plant leadership role as Plant or Production Manager
* Experience in metal packaging, automotive or FMCG industries
* In-depth knowledge of business and management principles (i.e. budgeting, cost control)
Beneficial
* Previous experience in implementing and using continuous improvement tools such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, etc.
* Knowledge of food safety and other management systems
