Please note that with effect from 1 April, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30, and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £30, per annum / £16.64 per hour)
The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.
Job purpose/about the role
The Senior Library Assistant will lead and manage a team to deliver high quality, customer focused library and learning services across Aberdeen.
The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
1. 4 National 5 passes at Grade A-C or equivalent, to include English and a Mathematics subject or equivalent
2. PVG Membership for Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults or willingness to obtain prior to a formal offer of employment being made
The postholder is able to demonstrate:
3. Assisting and supporting service users
4. Carrying out physical nature of duties; movement of books and other resources between and onto shelves
5. Monitoring and evaluation of service or project delivery
6. Organisation and administration of service or project delivery
7. Presentation, promotion skills and delivery of outreach activities to a range of clients
8. Time management and ability to prioritise
9. Training and supporting groups or individuals
10. Use of new technologies
11. Working independently
12. Working collaboratively with a range of partners
