Catering/Stores assistant, 16 hours per week, 35 weeks per year. Are you self-motivated, enjoy cleaning, tidying, and organising? Do you have an understanding of HACCP monitoring and food safety management? Do you have experience in customer service and engagement in food service? A basic understanding of Microsoft Office programmes is essential.
Responsibilities
Role includes but is not limited to:
1. Setting up catering lesson ingredients based on the recipes supplied by lecturers and removing and storing ingredients after lessons as required.
2. Supporting lunch service during the main rush, serving food, operating the till, and light cooking as needed.
3. Filling up drinks vending machines and display fridges following FIFO procedure.
4. Monitoring stores area:
1. Receiving and inspecting all food and non-food products, ensuring storage complies with Food Safety regulations.
2. Ensuring that all food products are labelled according to Food Safety regulations.
3. Ensuring that all deliveries to different areas are taken in a timely manner.
4. Checking freezers and refrigerators to ensure correct temperature.
5. Taking responsibility for the cleanliness and organisation of the training kitchen and store area.
6. Supporting the Catering Supervisor with ordering for catering areas as requested.
Typical Day
1. Set up/breakdown lesson and clean as needed.
2. Support lunch service in the student refectory.
3. Fill up fridges and vending machines.
4. Complete stores checklist, storing and cleaning.
You will be given full stores training, till training, and induction. The Stores/Catering assistant works with the Commercial and Curriculum Catering team at Thurrock Campus. You will be part of the catering team who oversee all food provisions within the college. Our team is supportive, dynamic, and flexible. Candidates must be organised and work well under pressure. You must have a flexible approach to meet the needs of our learners, and some experience is desirable but certainly not essential.
Shift Pattern
Shift pattern will initially be 10:00-14:00 as agreed Monday to Thursday, but some flexibility will be required to support lesson provisions.
