SALARY: $39,671 – $69,426
The Challenge
We are looking for a skilled Engineering Technician to join our District 2 Permitting team.
In this role, you will:
1. Perform on-site inspections for compliance with NCDOT standards for driveway connection construction, encroachment installation, and subdivision street construction.
2. Monitor illegal use of highway right-of-way for signs, utilities, and private activities.
3. Assist in collecting field data for the review of driveway permits, site plans, utility and non-utility encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions/abandonments.
4. Meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to policies/procedures and to answer questions.
5. Address complaints from the public by phone, written correspondence, and in person.
6. Operate a computer to prepare documents and maintain databases.
7. Assist our Division during emergencies and bad weather.
8. Assist our District Engineer with tasks.
What You Bring
1. Experience conducting independent, moderately-complex inspections with limited supervision.
2. Good engineering judgment to assess construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures.
3. Experience maintaining neat, legible, and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry.
4. General knowledge of surveying.
5. Computer experience using apps on iPads and computers.
Education & Experience
1. Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
2. 2+ years relevant technician-level experience; or
3. An equivalent combination of training and experience.
