Job Title: Legal Advisor
Location: Sheffield
Reporting to: Head of Legal Practice or Team Manager for day-to-day matters
Job Purpose:
The primary purpose of this role is to communicate with clients, mainly via telephone, to take instructions in connection with legal claims and to provide basic legal advice. You will be responsible for handling a range of personal injury claims, including Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) and Official Injury Claims (OIC) files, under supervision.
Principal Accountabilities and Tasks:
Client Communication:
1. Provide preliminary advice on claims and take initial instructions from clients via telephone, email, or in writing.
2. Answer all inbound calls and make outbound calls in a prompt, professional manner, adhering to departmental standards.
3. Deliver excellent customer care in line with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and audit requirements.
Claims Handling:
1. Carry out relevant searches based on the type of personal injury claim.
2. Draft and prepare the Claims Notification Form for submission to the defendant.
3. Instruct medical agencies and arrange appointments for clients.
4. Handle a number of Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) claims and Official Injury Claims (OIC) files, with supervision throughout the process.
Legal Advice:
1. Provide general legal advice based on your experience and capabilities.
2. Contact third parties via telephone to initiate investigations and gather relevant information.
Data and Case Management:
1. Input necessary data into the case management system accurately and ensure it is kept up-to-date.
2. Maintain case files and records to ensure compliance with legal regulations, including Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and Data Protection guidelines.
General Administration:
1. Meet strict deadlines and adhere to departmental guidelines.
2. Perform general administrative tasks to support the smooth operation of the department.
3. Handle any other duties as required to facilitate the effective running of the team.
Key Skills and Experience Required:
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, particularly over the telephone.
* Strong ability to prioritise tasks and manage workloads to meet deadlines.
* Attention to detail and a good level of organisation.
* Experience in customer care, ideally in a legal or claims handling environment.
* Knowledge of personal injury claims or similar legal processes is beneficial.
* Familiarity with case management systems and basic legal terminology is an advantage.
* Ability to pick up technical and legal information quickly.
Compliance and Regulations:
* Adhere to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) rules and guidelines.
* Comply with Data Protection regulations, ensuring client data is handled securely.
Other information:
* Location: Sheffield S9
* Hours: Office-based - Monday to Friday 35 hours a week
* Covering 3 shifts on a week-by-week rota 8am – 4pm / 9am – 5pm / 10am – 6pm
* Salary range: £21,360 - £11.73ph
* Holidays 25 with an extra day accrued for each year worked up to a maximum of 31 + Bank Hols
