This appointment is for a full-time Obstetrician with a specialist interest in Diabetes andMaternal Medicine.
You will be joining a well-established team experienced in providing robust MDT care for people with Diabetes in pregnancy. Your expertise will help deliver evidence-based, responsive and holistic care for our patients. There will be a focus on leading the management of our maternal population who have or who develop diabetes in pregnancy.There will be exciting opportunities to further improve our pre-existing multidisciplinary diabetes and high-risk obstetric clinics working in close collaboration with other consultants. You will also be expected to lead the Diabetes service across the MSE during their employment. You are expected to cover labour ward on a rotational basis along with ante-natal clinics, elective and emergency theatres.
You will be actively involved in the clinical governance aspects of the directorate and the trust including risk management and meeting of CNST requirements.
You will provide expert input into clinical cases within the labour and antenatal wards that deviate from the normal. Provide risk analysis and management plans for all cases that require specialist input.
• Provide a consultant-led service in Obstetrics.
• Work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to offer expert opinion and considerate advice to women with complications in any stage of pregnancy.
• Develop the Obstetric service by working closely with other colleagues to standardise pathways of care.
• Provide training for resident doctors in the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
• Evolve and write, in line with Trust governance policies, pathways for patients seen within the Obstetric service.
• Work with the multidisciplinary team to undertake a senior role in the general provision of Obstetric Services at Basildon Hospital and MSE.
• Provide senior leadership in the management of high-risk patients antenatally, intrapartum and postpartum in close co-operation with other specialties.
• Attend theatre cases to perform surgery, unless satisfied that a trainee is competent to perform the operation with indirect supervision.
• Obstetric on call commitments as part of the departmental on call rota (1 in 14).
• Support obstetric colleagues with advice/ surgical assistance, e.g. major obstetric haemorrhage.
