Department: Out-patient Department Moorfields South at St George’s and Satellites (Nelson Community Centre and Queen Mary Roehampton)
Grade: Band 3
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday Include weekends)
To provide a technical and clinical service for the Out-patient service in Moorfield’s South at St Georges and Satellites.
Following training, the post holder will be working alongside nurses and clinicians to assist with delivery of care to patients when attending clinics.
The post holder will be expected to undertake in-house training regarding the different equipment.
Assist in the education and training of new staff when needed.
Work with all members of the multi-professional team (nursing, medical staff, allied health professionals, support workers and all members of the management team).
To support qualified nursing staff in providing high quality individualised care to a define group of service users. Working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centered care principles.
You will be allocated to different sites (St Georges, Nelson Community Centre and Queen Mary’s Hospital and Future Satellites under St Georges).

• Responsible for carrying out clinical ophthalmic practice within the clinic, ensuring that high quality care is delivered at all times when patients attending clinics.
• To assist Nurse and Doctors in the treatment room for the delivery of using aseptic techniques. To use certain drops under PGD’s and be aware of limitations of own’s practice.
• To work alongside all staff in all areas of the patient pathway, i.e. outpatient clinic activity, nurse led clinics, surgical day-care and in-patients when needed whilst demonstrating infection control principles.
• To have attained the competencies such as patient observations (Blood Pressure electronic and manual measurement), TPR,RBS,HbA1c, BMI calculation, Diagnostic Machines (OCT, Fields Machine, Clarus and etc.) ECG, Intra Ocular Measurement using contact and non-contact tonometry such as Icare and ORA, Vision assessment using LogMar, Thompson Chart and Snellen and other test charts in accordance with Trust and National guidelines.
• Will be responsible for the application of knowledge across the range of ophthalmic work procedures and practices, underpinned by theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
• At all times treat patients with dignity, care and respect, exercising discretion and maintaining their confidentiality.
• Responsible for maintaining the equipment, ensuring it is safe to use and assist with data archiving. The successful candidate will be expected to develop clinical skills appropriate to their role and responsibilities within the injection service.
• To ensure that patients’ receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.
• To support qualified nurses in the assessment of health needs, planning, delivery and evaluation of care for a number of individuals or groups of patients when attending the injection clinic.
• To undertake medicine assessment and to follow the Trust’s Patient Group Directive for the administration of eye drops for patients undergoing intravitreal injections.
• Competent in the use of MEH PAS, Open Eyes, EProcurement, and to be able to contact the relevant department whenever any IT issues arises.
• To provide reassurance, advice and comfort to all patients, many who might have complex emotional, psychological problems and understand how to escalate if necessary.
• Maintain departmental stock levels by overseeing the ordering of stores.
