CLINICAL SCIENTIST FELLOW
Job Ref: 082486
Salary: £93,666 – £96,599 pa
We are looking to appoint one Clinician Scientist Fellow (CSF) between the University of Liverpool and GSK. The CSF will be part of the MRC Medicines Development Fellowship Scheme which offers a unique opportunity for CSFs to develop into independent cross-boundary research leaders. The successful candidate will plan and deliver a five-year research project in collaboration with GSK and University of Liverpool. The research project will need to be consistent with the MRC criteria for excellence in research. This is a bespoke scheme offering “without walls” training that will cover the full medicines development pathway. The scheme will support medical fellows to become future leaders in either industry or academia. Training will ensure that Fellows develop a cohesive, cross-boundary, programme of work, within a scheme that pro-actively engages industry partners, creating a seamless and supportive working environment which enhances multi-sector mobility and porosity between academia and industry.
The MRC Medicines Development Fellowship Scheme comprises a combination of four universities (Queen Mary University London, University of Glasgow, University of Liverpool and University of Manchester) and four industry partners (GSK, AstraZeneca, Optum and Hammersmith Medicines Research). This partnership will provide a unique powerfully synergistic environment for the Fellows, allowing integration of expertise and technologies across academic and industry partners, and across all phases of drug development. The Fellows will be able to interact with each other, and with the large cohorts of clinical and fundamental science trainees in the four Universities, including on UKRI Doctoral Training Partnership schemes, and with scientists in Industry. Fellows will have access to modern clinical research facilities in the Institutions, and access to state-of-the-art technologies through all the partners.
The Fellow will have a nominated sponsor at both the University of Liverpool and GSK. In addition, specific advice and support will be given by members of the Programme Management Board. In addition, Fellows will receive mentorship from senior academics and in turn Clinician Scientists will be expected act as a mentor for one of the schemes’ Pre-doctoral Clinical Research Fellows (based at another HEI). Mentor training will be provided. The scheme will also have a bespoke teaching programme that will be responsive to the Fellow’s specific learning needs and developments in the research environment and at the cutting edge of discovery.
The provisional start date for the successful candidates is 1 April 2025. Candidates should hold their CCT either at the time of appointment or should expect to achieve this within 6 months of appointment. However, candidates should be no more than two years post CCT.
Initial enquires to be addressed to the Programme Manager, Miss Angela Foxcroft at and will be redirected as appropriate to University/industry leads.
Closing date: 4 August 2024.
