Our community phlebotomists work throughout North West Surrey and provide home visits to patients who are housebound. The team covers a large geographical area so the ability to travel between patients' homes and surrounding areas is essential.
The role requires positivity, excellent communication, and good organizational skills.
You will need to demonstrate integrity, initiative, flexibility, and the skill to support the team, approaching your work in a coordinated way.

Main duties of the job
To be a Community Phlebotomist, your role is vital in terms of supporting people's care by undertaking venipuncture and collecting samples from patients in the community, ensuring patient safety and personal safety through adhering to protocols, policies, procedures, and relevant Health and Safety legislation at all times.
Ensure that blood samples are accurately labelled in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Ensure that clinical samples are correctly packaged for transportation to the laboratory.
You should have excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to organize and prioritize your workload without direct supervision. You should be committed to delivering high quality patient care.
The postholder will need to be an experienced phlebotomist.
In addition to this, they will need to hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a car.

Job responsibilities
Principal duties include:
1. Collecting, using venepuncture procedures, blood samples from adult patients 18 years and over in a variety of settings, selecting the appropriate equipment for the procedure.
2. Providing a phlebotomy service at designated other settings.
3. Monitoring and maintaining the health, safety, and security of self and patients during the venipuncture procedure.
4. Practicing within risk management/occupational health legislation and CSH procedures, and being aware of potential hazards.
5. Collecting samples from patients in high-risk categories and being aware of potential hazards.
6. Following agreed protocols to minimize risk to self and others.
7. Ensuring that blood sample bottles are accurately labelled in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
8. Ensuring that clinical samples are correctly packaged for transportation to the laboratory in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Pathology Department.
9. Being proficient in the use, maintenance and quality control procedures of the departmental equipment.
10. Working to ensure that service performance targets are met by continually assessing priority of own work; taking into account individual needs of the patient.

Qualifications
* Within 3 months the post holder will be assessed on their practical skills and knowledge base and must have reached competency equivalent to QCF Level 3 Unit 4223/340 Obtain A Venous Blood Sample (HSC 3053).
* Certificate in venipuncture.
* Be proactive in learning and development of self, and show a willingness to retain information.
