Specialist Palliative Care Macmillan Nurse

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, enthusiastic and experienced nurse with a passion for Palliative and End of Life care to join our Acute Macmillan Specialist Palliative and End of Life Care Team for a 9 month full time fixed term contract. The post is advertised as Band 7, however we would consider offering a Band 6 opportunity if there was an appropriate candidate that did not necessarily hold all the required criteria. Weekend working would be required on a rota basis.
The team are based at Scunthorpe General Hospital and provide highly specialist palliative care advice and support to patients, their loved ones, and health care professionals on our in-patient wards. The team works closely with the Consultant in Palliative Medicine, End of Life Care Team and Community based Macmillan Specialist Palliative Care Team as well as collaborating with all teams involved in the patients' care.
As a palliative care nurse specialist you will require excellent communication skills, effective leadership skills and advanced decision making skills.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide specialist advice and a supportive role for those affected by cancer and other life threatening illnesses during the palliative stages of the disease process. This process involves direct support to the patient, relatives and carers as well as providing this specialist advice to other professionals. This will include, but is not exhaustive of, complex symptom management and advanced care planning discussions. The role also involves education, research and training to enhance standards of palliative care.
The post holder will be required to develop and maintain a good work relationship with all staff and liaise closely with clinicians, nursing staff, administrative support and patient administration staff at all levels throughout the Trust and other affiliated services. This service is now working 7 days a week and the successful candidate would be expected to work weekends on a rota basis.

Education and Qualifications
Essential
* Level 1 registered nurse
* Degree or equivalent in nursing studies
* Evidence of post registration development at Masters level (level 7) qualification in palliative care or oncology
Desirable
* Teaching/facilitation qualification or experience
* Leadership qualification / modules
Occupational Experience
Essential
* Significant post registration clinical experience in relation to palliative care and/or oncology
* Experience of caseload management and leadership
