York & Scarborough Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has an ambitious programme of service modernisation and a reputation for providing high quality services. In line with our outlook, we are now inviting applications for this post, based at York.
The successful post holder will work at SpR level and join the Ophthalmology team at York or Scarborough Hospital. The Post holder will be competent in General Medicine and engage in all the duties incumbent in that role.

All applicants must have full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC, as well as a current ALS certificate and have a minimum of 6 months NHS experience.
Main duties of the job
The postholder’s primary responsibility is the day-to-day care of patients under the care of the Consultants in their team. The incumbent will receive instruction in procedures and help with management from senior colleagues. They will be expected to know the patients in detail and to present them on ward rounds/handovers.
This is not an approved training position; however, you will receive the following:
* Named clinical supervisor
* Local Induction and information pack outlining internal training courses/opportunities available to doctors in these non-approved training positions
* Individual Personal Development Plan and annual Appraisal - Individual access to the NHS e-appraisal system (funded by the Trust for posts that are six months or longer)
* Funding and paid time available for study leave (£500 per annum)
* Support towards obtaining Alternative Certificate confirming achievement of foundation competencies, to aid those who want to access a recognised training position in the future” ALS, ATLS, CcRISP and TILS are all provided locally. You will have a designated clinical supervisor during your appointment and opportunities for support by trained mentors. Regular timetabled teaching sessions will take place to support the service-based learning.
We offer a Study Leave budget to all our Trust Grade Doctors of £500 pa (pro rata)

Person specification
Qualifications
* Has achieved MBChB or equivalent medical qualification
* Satisfactory completion of ST1-2 post or equivalent
* At least 6 months previous experience in Ophthalmology
* Current ALS certificate
* 12 Months continuous experience within the NHS
Knowledge
* Ability to assess, recognise and initiate management of the acutely ill patient and play an effective part in advanced life support
* Knowledge of UK health systems, practices and values; awareness of current issues in the NHS
* Registered with and holds a current licence to practise from the GMC
Communication
* Able to communicate effectively in written and spoken English
* Able to communicate effectively in a medical context
* Able to discuss treatment options with patients and carers in a way they can understand

DBS Checks
Please be aware that all new employees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary either in 1 payment or over a six month period once you start employment. By applying you are agreeing to this undertaking.
