This is an external vacancy and is not employment with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
A lady in her 70s has Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia. Her physical and mental health can fluctuate on an hourly/daily basis. Most of the time, she will say that she requires no help and can manage herself, but generally, this is not the case. The lady lives with her husband, who has his own health problems but does not require support with these.
The role requires someone to supervise her in the shower, wash her hair when required, help her to get out of bed if she is not already up when the carer arrives, support with getting dressed, and pick suitable clothing according to the weather conditions. You may also be required to empty the commode, make a cup of tea, and prepare a general breakfast as well as make a sandwich to put aside for lunch.
The person would need to be reliable with timekeeping, trustworthy, friendly, and able to make good conversation.
A genuine occupational requirement for a female worker exists for this post under the Equality Act 2010 due to privacy and decency.
DBS/Reference checks will be required for this post, with the cost to be met by the local authority.
