Fletcher ward supports patients that may be admitted informally or detained under a section of the Mental Health Act. Patients may need intensive assessment and immediate intervention. Service users will only receive treatment on Fletcher Ward if their mental health condition cannot be safely managed in their own home or with support from our community teams.
On Fletcher ward, we aim to provide a holistic approach to recovery and rehabilitation within a safe environment. We value positive risk-taking to enable clients to move forward with their lives and promote recovery. We aim to provide person-centred care in every aspect of our role and promote patient involvement in their care and treatment plans. Within the Fletcher team, we all try to listen calmly, respectfully, and patiently to others and treat everyone in a kind and courteous manner. We will all try to be open and honest and work together to promote positive change and recovery. Fletcher ward is a busy environment, and the needs of each individual cannot always be met instantly but should be met in a timely manner. The safety of the staff and patients here is the team's priority.
Main duties of the job
Fletcher ward is a busy 18-bedded acute mental health admission unit for the east of the county based in Bodmin Hospital.
We are hoping to recruit an additional full-time band 6 senior staff nurse.
This exciting opportunity focuses on clinical leadership and developing and maintaining high-quality care within a ward environment. The successful applicants will lead on PIPA, support and mentor learners, and provide supervision to others while also providing high levels of clinical care.
Working alongside the deputy ward manager, the posts enable the successful applicants to act as experienced role models and leaders to junior colleagues, but also to develop leadership and managerial skills and enhance their career in mental health nursing. We will support the successful applicant in accessing experiential learning and training.
These are rotational posts that require a high degree of resilience, motivation, and commitment, and a willingness to help manage the team to deliver high-quality patient care through being an effective role model.
This post is ideally suited to an RMN who has completed a preceptorship period and has had subsequent clinical experience post-registration in an acute or PICU adult mental health setting and wishes to take on a more senior role.
About us
We're an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people's physical and mental health. We also provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.
We are a people organization, and people matter to us. As part of the team, you'll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this beautiful part of the UK.
Over 4,000 people make up the Trust. This includes doctors, nurses, therapists, plus admin and support staff.
We work in people's homes, in community clinics and bases. Some staff work from one of our 13 community hospitals. Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work, and a great partner.
Approximately 568,000 people live here. A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon. As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer, and during other holidays, lots of people choose to visit the area. This increases the numbers of people who use our services.
