As part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) develops and exploits frontier research in particle physics, astronomy, nuclear physics, and space science through activities at UK universities and its own national laboratories, working internationally through a range of long-term collaborative research projects.
About the role
We are looking for a Data Manager to join the STFC Programmes Directorate (PD). Programmes is responsible for implementing STFC’s core programme across particle physics, astronomy, and nuclear physics. This includes the associated high-performance computing, and STFC's delivery of education, innovation, training, international and public outreach activities.
This role will support the provision of data and analysis for the whole directorate, as well as work across STFC and UKRI more widely.
Working with the Head of Data and Reporting, this role will:
1. Lead on the collective data and analysis needs of STFC’s Programme Directorate (PD), working in close partnership with other areas of STFC.
2. Work with data and analysis colleagues across UKRI, inputting into data groups, discussions and projects.
3. Co-ordinate the reporting, monitoring and evaluation of STFC PD’s grant portfolio and be the central liaison point for STFC PD analysis.
4. Provide performance metrics to support and advise colleagues on research and innovation funding and allocation decisions.
5. Produce ad-hoc support across the organisation using a variety of analytical and statistical methods.
6. Interpret, analyse, and present data from across STFC and UKRI.
7. Provide analysis based on STFC Grant data combined with wider STFC and UKRI data to inform strategy and planning.
8. Ensure that STFC PD’s data capture, curation and administration processes are efficient and fit for purpose.
9. Advise on STFC Programme Directorate data and reporting requirements within wider STFC and UKRI.
10. Develop and implement analytical and operational reporting frameworks for STFC’s programmes and initiatives.
11. Foster a collaborative, collegiate approach across virtual teams in support of collective working.
12. Co-ordinate STFC responses to external requests for data and information.
13. Contribute to STFC landscape mapping projects and support portfolio analysis.
14. Publish, manage and maintain various data visualisations and dashboards for both internal and public use.
15. Work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
16. Work as part of a team, developing your own technical and non-technical skills.
Person Specification
The criteria below will be assessed at both Shortlisting and Interview stages.
