A bit about the role
The Gael Og Youth Service in Inverness is a joint initiative led by Action for Children, Police Scotland, and Social Work Services as part of the Side Step Intervention Service. This voluntary programme is dedicated to supporting vulnerable children and young people who are at risk of, or already involved in, serious criminal activity.
Adopting a person-centred approach, the service prioritises individual development by offering tailored opportunities that address each person's unique needs. Our Young Person Practitioner's, armed with specialised expertise, collaborate with various agencies to deliver comprehensive support. With resilience, empathy, and adaptability, they tackle the challenges faced by young individuals, providing assistance even beyond standard working hours.
Key objectives of the programme include delivering personalised one-to-one and group sessions designed to empower young people with essential skills for making positive choices. Through targeted interventions, the Side Step team seeks to help individuals overcome both personal and practical barriers that hinder constructive life paths. The ultimate goal is to support re-engagement in education, training, or employment, reducing the likelihood of criminal behaviour and fostering a brighter, more positive future.
How you'll help to create brighter futures
As a Young Persons Practitioner, you'll make a meaningful impact on young people's lives by recruiting them into the Side Step Intervention Service with a focus on equality and diversity. You'll handle assessments, care planning, and regular progress reviews, providing tailored support when necessary. Building strong, positive relationships, you'll act as a role model to challenge negative behaviours and promote personal growth and positive decision-making.
Your role will include identifying and connecting young people with local resources, such as education, training providers, and employment opportunities, while collaborating with third parties to address specific needs. You'll also provide mentoring support, helping young people prepare for employment by assisting with practical tasks like obtaining identification and planning travel.
Additionally, you'll manage a caseload, prioritising tasks effectively, completing necessary documentation, and ensuring health and safety regulations are met. Through regular visits, positive interventions, and active promotion of the Side Step Intervention Service to partners and agencies, you'll empower young people to overcome obstacles and build brighter futures.
Let's talk about you
* An open-minded, non-judgemental personality as you'll be working with people that are at a vulnerable point in their lives.
* Working within a multi-agency social care, early years or health environment and applying safeguarding procedures.
* To participate in a flexible working rota to provide support for young people, some evening and weekend work will be required.
* Driving licence and access to a car. The job requires the ability to travel across a large rural catchment according to the needs of the job, with reasonable adjustments, if required, according to the Equality Act.
* To work cross functionally with other services within Gael Og to ensure that Action for Children's Values and strategic objectives are achieved.
* To guide and support less experienced staff.
