SEN Navigator We have an exciting opportunity for TWO Permanent, Full Time, SEN Navigators to join Southampton City Council (SCC) in the Special Educational Needs Team. This role can be hybrid, the expectation is that the successful candidate will come into the office at the civic centre, two full days per week at minimum. There is the opportunity to come into the office more than this if you wish. About the team: The Southampton SEN Team consists of a team manager, 3 Practice Managers, 1 case Co-ordinator and Data Officer, 10 SEN Case officers and 4 Assistant Case officers. We are a very bonded team and the support we have for each other is second to none. We would love to have someone join us who likes to be part of a team, someone caring and supportive The world of SEN is fast paced and needs someone who is able to take this in their stride, with sudden changes of priorities to meet statutory deadlines and the ever increasing demand across the city. The team often go out on a Friday after work for some drinks to cheers the end of the week. There are often also invites to weekend activities and fun Christmas do’s About the role: If successful, you will be part of the professional service team supporting the delivery of services in accordance with defined standards. Monitoring and reporting on performance against standards, supporting the delivery of service and implementing improvement activities. To provide informed and responsive communication for parents, carers, stakeholders and professionals in relation to the SEND Service in a timely and responsive manner. To liaise with schools, parents and professionals in relation to applications for Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments, ensuring that all information is collated in a timely manner. To lead and record meetings with parents, carers and stakeholders in relation to decisions and outcomes from the SEN Team. To triage communication from parents and stakeholders, prior to passing to SEND Case Officers, if required, providing front line advice and guidance to parents and stakeholders. To record accurate information on Data Management Systems, ensuring that relevant data is signposted accordingly and then actioned in a timely manner. To support with the process of identifying children and young people who are out of education and recorded as NEET. To liaise with parents and young people in relation to next required steps in education and support Case Officers to action support for children to return to education or to take next steps into training or employment, whilst recording all steps effectively on the data management system About you - we need someone who has the following: High level of Education (‘A’ Level) At least 3 years’ experience of working directly with Children and Families with SEND in an educational setting. Experience in using MS Office including Outlook, MS Teams, Excel, Word, Powerpoint etc to effectively meet the demands of the role Experience of working in an environment of tight deadlines Experience of working within a local government environment Ability to communicate information clearly (written and verbal) Have a professional manner, working with discretion and confidentiality and demonstrable experience and understanding of the need for political sensitivity and awareness For further information about this role please view the job description.
