Full job description
Grade 10a (30S), salary from £55,755–£74,867 per annum, plus a housing allowance of £20,000 p.a. (or rent-free single accommodation in college, or rent-free house or flat, both with a residence allowance, and subject to availability); a tutorial allowance of £6,000 p.a.; and an allowance of up to £3,800 p.a. for research expenses. An additional allowance of £3,155 is payable upon award of Recognition of Distinction (i.e. the title of Professor).
The Faculty of Law, in association with Merton College, invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the post of Travers Smith Associate Professor of Corporate Finance Law to commence on 1 September 2025. The position is full-time and, upon completion of a successful review, permanent. In exceptional cases, the title of full Professor may be awarded on appointment.
The successful candidate will be both a member of the Faculty of Law and an Official Fellow and Tutor in Law at Merton College. The person appointed will join one of the largest and most distinguished groups of legal scholars in the world. The appointee will have, or be well on the way to establishing, a record of internationally recognised scholarship and research and will be required to provide a high standard of research-led teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including the supervision of research students.
The Faculty is looking to appoint someone who will produce outstanding research and who will deliver teaching in company law at the undergraduate level and corporate finance law at postgraduate level. There will also be opportunities to deliver teaching in other postgraduate courses in related areas. For the College, teaching is sought for one, or preferably two, of the following subjects: Criminal Law, EU Law, Jurisprudence, Roman Law, Tort.
In making this appointment, the University and the College share the goal of developing and strengthening the research and teaching capacities and capabilities of the Faculty of Law and the College, as well as contributing more generally to the goal of maintaining the University of Oxford as a leading centre for research and teaching in Law and Legal Studies.
