Can you work autonomously and solve complex problems? If you have proven experience of working in a technical support role and you can support the effective and efficient operation of our general facilities and resources, then this is the perfect role for you.
Working as part of our technical support team you will provide a comprehensive, immediate and specialised electronics support service for staff and students within the school.
You will help to deliver timely, and effective specialised research and teaching laboratory support to students, academic and research staff at all levels and visitors.
As an electronics technician you can expect to be involved in:
* Using your well-developed working technical knowledge to help solve problems independently, maintaining the working environment and raising any complex issues with more senior staff
* Planning and performing activities independently using a range of techniques, sometimes working from a limited brief
* Liaising with staff, students and visitors, as well as dealing with routine external service providers to ensure laboratory facilities and electronics test equipment are kept operational. Working collaboratively with other members of the team
* Operating technical equipment, assisting staff and students
* Undertaking routine maintenance tasks, fault finding and basic repairs of electronic devices at module and component level. Soldering conventional and surface mount components
* The design of low voltage microcontroller based electronic circuits, printed circuit boards and electro-mechanical mechanisms
What will you bring to the role?
* Educated to A level or equivalent in electronics engineering, or directly relevant industry experience
* Proven experience of working in a technical support role with experience using complex technical equipment
* Relevant theoretical and practical knowledge in electronics
* Excellent working knowledge of safety regulations and procedures. For example, risk assessment, COSHH
* Experience in supporting the procurement of technical equipment.
* Providing complex equipment and technology advice to students and colleagues.
