Job summary
Queensway Hospital, part of Ellern Mede Group, is looking for an organized and dedicated Medical Secretary and Mental Health Act Officer to join our Acute Adult Mental Health team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong administrative skills and a passion for supporting healthcare professionals in delivering high-quality care.
As an essential member of our administration team, you will provide key support to our clinical staff, ensuring the smooth running of appointments, records, and communications within the department. Your role will be pivotal in facilitating the care of our patients, liaising with external agencies, and ensuring that all administrative tasks are completed in compliance with mental health legislation and best practices.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide secretarial and administrative support to Consultant Psychiatrists and the clinical team, including managing diaries and patient appointments.
2. Communicate vital information regarding patient admissions, discharges, and appointments to patients, carers, and external agencies.
3. Assist in the management of patient records, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations and maintaining data integrity.
4. Perform Mental Health Act Administration duties, including handling Section papers, tracking consent renewals, and organizing Managers’ hearings.
5. Facilitate meetings, take minutes, and organize logistics for training and conferences.
6. Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to support patient care and ensure smooth administrative operations.
7. Maintain and update patient records on EMIS and other systems, ensuring timely and accurate data entry.

* Knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended) and relevant healthcare regulations.
