We have an exciting new opportunity for a Group Financial Controller to join our Finance team within our Nottingham office.
The role
The role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the implementation of efficient financial processes.
As a key member of the Finance Leadership Team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our Finance Function.
In this position, you will lead the development and oversight of our Financial Control Framework. Collaborating closely with the Head of Finance Operations, you will ensure our processes are robust and well-governed, instilling confidence in the accuracy and completeness of our outputs.
You will also manage relationships with our external stakeholders, including External Auditors, Tax Advisors for Members, and the Bank.
Duties and responsibilities
Reporting & Insight:
1. Ensure timely and accurate preparation of consolidated financial statements and management reports.
2. Ensure Month end close to deadline, including review of schedules for internal reporting.
3. Review balance sheet packs for all entities are delivered, both preparing specific recs and reviewing recs prepared by the Team and other departments, including inter-office and payroll. Highlight and follow-up on issues/outstanding balances and investigating queries.
4. Review of the Cash flow to ensure accurate estimates of future cash position, with detailed analysis of actual against forecast position.
5. Provide financial insights and analysis to support business decisions and growth initiatives.
6. Lead the annual budgeting process and provide ongoing financial forecasts to support strategic planning.
Control:
1. Develop and maintain robust internal control systems to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy.
2. Oversee compliance with international accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal policies.
3. Lead on the redesign of processes and procedures to ensure we operate in a robust, efficient way.
External Audit:
1. Be responsible for the Group, UK, Danish and Swedish audits ensuring the provision of good quality and accurate information as directed.
2. Ensure that audit requirements are prioritised to meet the deadlines and minimise time and cost spent.
Members Liaison:
1. Be the ‘go to’ person on all Member Queries.
2. Liaise with the Members Advisor to support the resolution of Member’s queries, particularly in relation to drawings and distribution.
Tax:
1. Review the VAT returns, review of underlying transactions and processes throughout finance to ensure compliance with legislation.
2. Review balance sheet reconciliation for all VAT balances.
3. Reviewing and reconciliation of withholding tax transactions from debtor receipts.
4. PAYE Settlement Agreement: monthly analysis and queries.
Team Leadership:
1. Manage and mentor a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
Taking on reasonable ad hoc duties as and when they arise.
Requirements
1. Relevant qualification and experience i.e. ACCA/ACA/CIMA, proven post qualification experience.
2. Strong understanding of Accounting Standards and an ability to interpret the legislation.
3. Strong communication skills with the ability to influence decision making.
4. Demonstrable experience of leading and developing a team.
5. Experience of working within a changing and dynamic finance environment undertaking a broad range of finance tasks and responsibilities.
6. Excellent time management and organisation skills. The ability to prioritise work is essential.
7. Flexible and adaptable in approach with an enquiring mind to challenge appropriately where necessary.
8. Demonstrable business acumen and commercial awareness.
9. To work flexibly to meet the needs of the service is essential.
10. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft packages including Outlook, Word and PowerPoint. Advanced Excel skills are a must.
11. Excellent systems knowledge.
