Job Summary:
Our purpose-built Oncology Centre is situated in QA Hospital. Combined Haematology/ Oncology ward (CHOC) is a 46-bed unit on 3 wards. Haem /Onc Day Unit (HODU) is staffed by experienced chemotherapy nurses and treat approximately 80 - 90 patients per day. Our Acute Oncology Service (AOS) has six dedicated assessment and treatment beds for patients presenting with complications from cancer treatment and the management of acute/emergency cancer symptoms.
This is a full-time Locally Employed Doctor (Registrar) post in Medical Oncology. The appointee will work together with 13 other Oncology Doctors rotating through attachments of 6 months covering a range of tumour types. The post holder will be required to demonstrate that they have experience in oncological management, and preferably will have MRCP or equivalent. The post may be attractive to a candidate who has completed Foundation and Core Medical competencies (IMT) and wishes to gain further experience in Medical Oncology before pursuing ST3 training.
Although a non-training post, the successful candidate will be assigned a consultant educational supervisor and will be encouraged to maintain a portfolio. There are regular education, clinical governance and departmental meetings, as well as Regional Oncology study days. The department is committed to research with participation in clinical trials in all major tumour sites. There are also a wide range of opportunities in clinical audit and quality improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities:
* Provide Registrar level day to day care for oncology in-patients, together with ward rounds with the consultants
* Attend and lead Medical Oncology clinics
* Participate in the Registrar of the Week rota (1 in 10)
* Participate in the Oncology Registrar on-call rota (1 in 10 weekends, Saturday & Sunday 0900 - 2030)
* Provide day to day clinical supervision of junior doctors in Oncology
* Co-ordinate and implement specialist care for patients with a new diagnosis of cancer or complications of cancer, initiate rapid referral to relevant oncology sub-site team and/or palliative care team.
* Supervise and assist Acute Oncology Team
* Participate in recruitment and management of patients into Clinical Trials
* Provide medical support for Haematology/ Oncology Day Unit
* Achieve basic competencies in Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment prescribing and demonstrate progress
* Teaching experience through the junior doctor induction and education programme, journal club, and opportunities to teach on MRCP programmes within the Trust
* Management and Leadership roles through participation in Chemotherapy Governance Group, Research Trial Protocol meetings, monthly Mortality/ Morbidity meetings.
Clinical Experience
* Evidence of completion of Foundational level or Equivalent 2 year training programme.
* Evidence of completion of Core Training or equivalent (IMT/CT).
* Demonstrate knowledge, skills and experience in Oncology.
* Highly desired current NHS experience.
* Full GMC registration.

Although this post is not approved for postgraduate training the duties are the same as the existing national approved training posts within specialty. The successful candidate will be assigned a consultant clinical supervisor and will be encouraged to maintain an educational portfolio with appropriate assessments to their level of experience. There are regular departmental lunchtime teaching sessions which are open to all medical staff to attend. There are also a wide range of opportunities to participate in clinical audit and improvement projects.
The Trust will also support you with a clinical appraisal which you can use towards your revalidation. We have a comprehensive support network with two consultants providing pastoral support to the Locally Employed Doctors within the Trust.

Qualifications:
* Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
* Primary medical qualification recognised by the GMC
* ALS/BLS
* MRCS or MRCP or MRCOG or MRCPH (Specialty dependent)
Experience:
* Higher professional training at ST3+
* NHS experience would be desirable
