Purpose of Role To lead the development and implementation of the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Strategy and foster a proactive Safety Culture across the UK Bus business unit. This includes designing and executing targeted safety improvement initiatives, establishing a robust performance measurement framework, and driving campaigns that address key safety risks and improvement areas. The role will provide critical insights and strategic recommendations to the UK Bus Executive Leadership Team, ensuring informed decision-making on material safety issues, mitigating risks, and enhancing overall safety performance. Additionally, the role will oversee the reporting and management of operational incidents and reportable events, maintaining alignment with Group Safety and Corporate Affairs standards. Main Responsibilities Governance and Reporting Lead the production and reporting of safety performance metrics as required for the UK Bus Management Teams, Wider Group HSE committee as well as external governing groups and communication events. Oversee the KPI BI-dashboards for safety, audits and risk management (including overseeing transfer to BI data hub). Oversee the production & cascade of daily and weekly reporting such as MyDrive safety scores, Figtree Incidents, FNOL, 100k incidents, Open DIC’s, Cost movement for incident claims, LTIF, Customer incidents, Sustainability KPI’s. Lead the monthly UK Bus HSE&R performance review meetings chaired by UK Bus MD, convened by BE Director. Responsible for ensuring that UK Bus’s safety strategy and plans meet the requirements of UK Bus HSE& R KPI’s and improvement plans & to achieve the Group safety KPI’s and objectives. Align with Group H&S, compliance and Legal teams on matters arising including Whistleblowing for Safety matters, Group Compliance matters and Safety incident escalations Support for sub-committees and union-based meetings where appropriate i.e. EVDC (Eng vehicle Design) and subcommittee, NLC meetings, Health, Safety, Risk and Well-being committee, Group Safety Network meeting, CPT safety meeting, UK Bus Risk Committee meeting. Maintain Weekly MOT reporting into UK Bus MD and monitoring any action plans as a result on non-conformance. Work alongside the BE product owner and lead tactical improvement activity in respect of data capability and reporting for Greenroad, Tracerit and on-bus systems including CCTV. Work alongside the BE product owner to introduce new incident reporting capability and end-to-end business process associated with implementation (i.e. Near Miss reporting and Incident reporting via Tracerit with links to Blink). Audit, Compliance and Investigation Manage the annual Leadership walk compliance and support the Compliance Manager to lead the Safety audit and compliance regimes including Occupational Health & Safety, Fleet Audit, Site verification Audit, Group compliance and audit regimes. Support the Compliance Manager to lead the engagement, management and cost control of external audit providers including ISO39001 and ISO45001, ISO14001. Assist with the set up and delivery of audits and re-certification. Act as the gate-keeper in relation to material changes to safety law or legislation that may impact UK Bus Ltd and ensure all appropriate internal policies are fully compliant. Support the Engineering Quality inspection teams to ensure delivery and review of Fleet Risk audit regimes including 2 nd / 3 rd Line of defence (audit, reporting KPI;s and audit close out) > Maintaining Quality Performance Reviews with local management teams. Support the Engineering Quality Inspection team for engineering and fleet investigations for audit and reporting for vehicle/ engineering -related incidents including thermal incidents and all fleet-related incidents. Standards, Policy and Process Ensuring a Definition of Standards to the accountable structure for HSE and Road Risk. Maintains the ‘Safety Management System, ‘Road Traffic Safety Management System’ and Safety Quality Manual and implements enhancement to Standard Operating Procedures where required. Work with external bodies and UK Bus Executive to mitigate risks from emerging safety challenges and associated changes in the law and safety legislation. Maintenance and update of Engineering Technical Standards and Sandbox repository of materials. Communication cascade and engineering alerts for changes to procedures and OEM guidelines as appropriate. ZEV Group Risk/ Safety Guidelines working group attendance and dissemination of changes to safety / risk guidelines as appropriate. Essential Postholder Requirements Hold a recognised professional qualification in the field of Health and Safety or Sustainability, with relevant experience within a similar role. A background in a HSE managerial capacity, preferably within a transportation, logistics or similar high-compliance industry. Proven track record of designing and executing HSE strategies, safety improvement campaigns and compliance frameworks. Experience managing and reporting safety metrics and KPIs, including experience with data dashboards and Business Intelligence (BI) tools. Background in managing safety audits, compliance processes, and certifications, including overseeing third-party audits. Experience working within a large matrix organization, coordinating with multiple departments, including senior executive leadership teams. Proven experience of minimising risk profile within an organisaton.
