Our Graduate Scheme is designed to give you a positive start to your career in local government. You will mainly be based in our Innovation & Digital Team in the Council’s Foundry Office, but as a Hybrid Worker will also work from home.
You will have the opportunity to build on the skills you have learned at university by carrying out an analysis of system requirements and working alongside experienced colleagues to develop solutions which help us to achieve our strategic objectives in tackling poverty. This will include understanding data to enhance individual’s access to entitled benefits and developing a solution to help maximise uptake.
You will gain experience in a range of work areas such as:
1. Working with colleagues to understand development specification requirements
2. Accessing data sources and the use of APIs
3. Developing automation solutions and user interfaces
4. Using Agile techniques to confirm development requirements and build progress
5. User acceptance testing
6. Storing and securing coding
7. Live environment deployment
You will have an HND or above in a computer science subject and should have an understanding and awareness of poverty and its impact on our society.
You will communicate with internal services, outside agencies and the public.

This could be gained through volunteering, internships or student honours projects as well as from previous employment.
We are also looking for you to have the ability to use a broad range of tools, such as:
16. UiPath (Robotic Process Automation)
17. Familiarity with web services and API
18. Office
19. An understanding of Service Design to co-design solutions with users
For our graduate scheme, it’s desirable for you to have graduated in the last 2 years. If you meet any of the additional desirable criteria below your application will be given priority:
20. Care Experienced
21. Live in Falkirk Council area
22. Currently unemployed/employed for less than 16 hours per week
23. Not working in the professional area you are applying for
You will sometimes be required to travel to sites or meetings at other premises and in connection with work activities. A full driving licence is desirable (Pool cars are available).
