Job Title: Sustainability Specialist (4-5 month contract)
Location: Paddington, London (Hybrid working pattern 2-3 days in the office)
Rate : £300 - £350 / Day Rate (Outside IR35)

As a Sustainability Specialist focused on Risk Assessment, your primary responsibility will be to evaluate, mitigate, and manage sustainability risks within the organisation's operations and supply chain. You will work closely with various departments to identify potential risks related to environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors and support developing strategies to address them effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Sustainability targets - Support the developing and implementing strategies to reduce Scope 3 emissions in line with corporate sustainability goals, aligning them to corporate objectives and international standards like GHG Protocol. Define and support the management of the risk assessment process for strategic and critical suppliers, in order to ensure the Group related targets are achieved
2. Compliance Monitoring - Stay abreast of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to sustainability and ensure the organisation's compliance with them. Monitor changes in regulations and assess their potential impact on the business.
3. Suppliers Engagement - Engaging across the Procurement Community and Paper Sourcing Teams. Provide support for Suppliers to onboard to the Ecovadis risk screening platform and for timely med/high risk action closure. Active engagement with relevant external organisations (e.g. Gartner, SEDEX, AIM-PROGRESS, Audit Houses etc) with the potential to add value to the Group's Responsible Sourcing Strategy.
4. Communication - Prepare regular reports and presentations on sustainability risk assessment findings, mitigation efforts, and progress towards goals.
5. Stakeholder engagement - Integrating sustainable sourcing considerations into procurement processes, supplier relationships, business operations. Work closely with procurement/sourcing teams to integrate carbon impact considerations into supplier selection and sourcing decisions. Engage with strategic suppliers to support them in their decarbonisation journey and implementation of sustainable sourcing practices
6. Risk Management - Conduct thorough assessments to identify potential sustainability risks across the supply chain partners, including but not limited to environmental impact, human rights issues, labour practices, and ethical sourcing. Develop strategies to drive improvements in risk dashboards for Procurement and Paper Sourcing stakeholders to enable timely identification and mitigation of risks. To develop, maintain and reset global risk tolerances for supplier ethical sourcing risks and decision frameworks - aligned to broader Group Risk and Sustainability Leadership.
Requirements:
Education and Certifications:
7. Excellent knowledge of the Responsible Sourcing agenda within the packaging, and or food and drink industry, particularly supply chain.
8. Experience in using SEDEX and in ethical screening and auditing - eg SMETA, Ecovadis etc
9. Project management experience
10. Bachelor's degree preferred
11. 3+ years relevant experience in developing and managing sustainable sourcing, human rights and community programmes with suppliers
Technical Requirements:
12. Carbon emissions reduction (SBT)
13. Supply Chain risk assessment
Experience:
14. Proven experience in conducting sustainability risk assessments, preferably in a corporate or consulting environment
15. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels
16. Proficiency in data analysis and reporting, with experience using sustainability metrics and tools
17. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic environment
18. Passion for sustainability and driving positive change within supply chains
19. Project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively
20. Adaptive style, when deploying change across a complex organisation.
