Job Description:
The Health, Safety, and Environmental Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the company's compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. You will ensure that all policies and procedures adhere to UK legislation, while promoting best practices across various projects. This role requires utilising digital platforms to manage safety operations efficiently and provide guidance to both internal teams and subcontractors. Reporting to Senior Management, the HSE Manager is pivotal in maintaining a strong culture of safety and sustainability within the organisation.
Role Overview:
This position will see you managing the company's health, safety, and environmental practices across a diverse range of projects. You will work closely with internal teams and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Environmental Protection Act 1990. By leveraging technology, you will streamline documentation, audits, and training processes to drive efficiency and safety in the workplace. The role involves supporting the company's growth by embedding a culture of continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental management.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintain industry accreditations such as CHAS, Constructionline, and SafeContractor, ensuring compliance and timely renewal.
2. Develop, implement, and review health and safety policies in line with UK legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
3. Oversee environmental compliance and implement management systems in accordance with ISO 14001.
4. Provide HSE guidance during the preconstruction phase and ensure all documentation complies with CDM Regulations 2015.
5. Conduct site audits using digital auditing tools, ensuring continuous compliance and identifying areas for improvement.
6. Deliver health and safety training, ensuring all personnel are compliant with legislation and best practices.
7. Lead environmental initiatives focusing on waste reduction, energy efficiency, and carbon footprint analysis.
8. Utilise digital platforms for reporting incidents, managing safety equipment, and maintaining HSE records.
Experience & Skills Required:
1. NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent qualification.
2. IEMA Foundation Certificate or equivalent environmental qualification (desirable).
3. Proficiency with digital HSE management tools and auditing software.
4. Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar HSE role, ideally within the construction sector.
5. Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience managing teams across multiple sectors.
6. In-depth knowledge of UK HSE legislation, including CDM Regulations 2015 and the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
