Job Overview This is an exciting opportunity for a Midwife to work as a Practice Development Midwife. This will involve working in each locality of the health board. You will be instrumental in leading and providing expertise and support for registered midwives, maternity support workers, HCSW and students on placement within the Health Board. You will be key in facilitating PROMPT both for the hospital and the community settings. Work collaboratively in the Team to promote a culture that accepts change, embraces development and recognizes the value of reflection and ability to challenge practice delivered by self and others. Main duties of the job The overarching aim is to develop practices in all aspects of maternity services and all points on the women’s maternity care pathway. The focus will be on developing staff and to focus on providing evidence, quality based women centred care in line with local and national guidelines and recommendations form national advisory bodies. The key performance indicators will be mandatory training attendance and competency assessment in core midwifery skills e.g. Intrapartum monitoring and PROMPT. The post holder will: Work closely with senior midwifery team, and corporate educational team to develop and support programmes for newly appointed staff. Provide leadership for all members of the Midwifery and Non-Midwifery team acting as a role model leading and promoting appropriate midwifery care and provide information to the expectant mother to enable her to make an informed choice about the place and mode of delivery and services available. Actively contribute to service developments at both a directorate and Trust level by attendance and participation in practice development forums and workshops, directorate meetings, including staff meetings, focus groups and benchmarking groups. Implement new projects and initiatives which improve services delivered to Patients and the operational effectiveness of the defined service areas, Directorate and Health Board.
