Job Introduction
Brighton & Hove is a great place to live, learn, work, and visit. Our diverse and vibrant community is passionate about the city, and there’s a shared commitment to celebrating and promoting all that makes Brighton & Hove so unique.
We are just as committed to delivering an outstanding service to our residents as we are in making Tenancy Services the first choice for a career in Housing.
If you are looking to work in a flexible and forward-thinking organisation, enjoy helping people from a range of backgrounds, and are looking for an exciting new challenge, then we would be delighted to hear from you.
You’ll be working in a directorate that is dedicated to empowering people from different communities and backgrounds to come together, live well and thrive, supported by our city-wide work on fairness, inclusion, and engagement.
The role of a Housing Service Adviser is to provide a first point of contact to Tenancy Services for tenants and leaseholders.
You will have experience of communicating with customers from a range of backgrounds face to face, on the phone, and digitally. You will be able to work in a high-demand service, providing advice, support, and signposting to council tenants. You will be skilled in discussing sometimes challenging issues in a supportive and empathic way. You will be skilled in keeping accurate records and in working with colleagues to achieve the best outcome for customers.
You’ll have an ability to communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders, an understanding of the needs of our different communities and residents, and the skills to ensure accessibility and inclusion in your work.
We have a number of full-time vacancies available, with some flexible working including working from home to support a positive work/live balance. We can also offer fully office-based arrangements as an option. Our diverse team is based across the city in one of our three housing offices and at our Housing Centre based in Moulsecoomb. On the days you are working in the office, you will be in a spacious and welcoming working environment, and whether working in the office or remotely, you will become part of our friendly and supportive management team.
In return, we can offer you a competitive salary, training and qualifications, career progression with the opportunity to become involved in bespoke projects, flexible working, a generous annual leave allowance with the opportunity to buy extra days, staff discounts, and admittance into the Local Government Pension Scheme.
Please read our Apply for a job at the council pages carefully. They give you all the guidance you need to complete your application as well as information on what will happen after you’ve submitted your application and at interview.
As part of your application, you will need to complete your education and work history and provide answers to some shortlisting questions. Your answers to the shortlisting questions are the most important part of your application as they will be used in the shortlisting process to assess whether you meet the essential requirements for the role that are set out in the person specification and to decide whether you should be offered an interview.
Additional Information
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
