Waste Manager Location: West Bromwich, West Midlands Salary: Competitive (D.O.E) Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:45 am – 4:30 pm Are you an experienced Waste Manager with a background in the chemical industry? At NPP we are seeking a dedicated professional to oversee waste management processes for a leading manufacturer operating in a highly regulated environment. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of waste compliance and sustainability initiatives. Key Responsibilities: Ensure all packaged process waste, including contaminated containers, is stored, managed, and disposed of in full compliance with UK legislation and Environmental Agency (EA) requirements. Work closely with the Quality Control (QC) team to analyse waste streams and ensure accurate labelling and documentation for cost-effective disposal solutions. Collaborate with Research & Development on new projects to manage and reduce waste generation effectively. Develop safety data sheets for waste streams using EXESS (Lisam). Continuously review external waste disposal companies to maintain full compliance with ‘Duty of Care’ regulations. Arrange the preparation of waste streams and untreated containers for off-site disposal, optimising haulage costs and disposal efficiency. Ensure compliance with Packaging Waste and Dangerous Goods Transport regulations in consultation with the company’s Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA). Produce and submit quarterly waste returns to the Environment Agency. Manage waste budgets to ensure cost-effective off-site disposal solutions. Oversee on-site solvent incineration and arrange pre-sample acceptance and consignment notes for incoming solvent waste. Participate in environmental audits and compliance activities to uphold ISO 14001 and IPPC authorisation standards. Skills & Experience Required: Essential: BSc in Chemistry or related field. Strong knowledge of Duty of Care Regulations. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in waste management within the chemical industry. Excellent communication skills to engage with multiple departments. Ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing workload demands. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Desirable: CIWM (Chartered Institute of Waste Management) qualifications or working towards chartered status. Membership of WAMITAB (Waste Management Industry Training & Advisory Board).
