Purpose of the job:
This role is primarily to ensure that the Metrology and calibration functions meet the needs of the business and customer requirements, ensuring any issues are escalated appropriately.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Responsibilities
1. Responsible for overall execution and delivery of the Metrology schedule for the inspection department, ensuring the schedule is completed and any issues with it are escalated.
2. Responsible for ensuring that components, patterns, fixtures and any other items are measured I.A.W customer/company requirements (tolerances, datum structures and GD&T).
3. Responsible for the calibration of all company equipment, within the set timescales.
4. Ensure all relevant paperwork and admin is completed in a timely manner.
5. Liaise with other departments to ensure smooth production of current and future work.
6. Keeping the Metrology area in visit-ready condition always.
7. Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment.
Quality and Standards
1. Responsible for ensuring all work is always completed to the correct quality standard (both the customer and company).
2. Liaising with the Quality Manager, Operations Manager and Inspection Leader to debrief quality performance, issues, failures of process, corrective actions and ensuring any actions are followed and resolved in a timely and cost-effective manner.
3. Ensure Metrology equipment is in good working condition and faults are immediately reported.
4. Ensuring the calibration function (within metrology) meets the requirements of the business.
People Mentoring
1. Responsible for the day-to-day mentoring of the Metrology staff.
2. Responsible for ongoing Metrology staff development and training.
SKILLS:
1. Programming the measurement of items using both Arm probing and laser scanning techniques (preferably with PowerInspect software).
2. Good understanding of GD&T.
3. Capable of interpreting complex engineering drawings.
4. Capable of reaching set targets within a given time frame.
5. Knows when to escalate issues to management.
