The Role REPORTS TO: Project Director LOCATION: Glasgow/Edinburgh/Cardiff/Home-based with the ability to travel An experienced Contracts Manager is sought to support the management of key contracts in a significant portfolio of onshore Energy Parks, and in particular, in preparation for the first of these projects reaching the construction phase. The Contracts Manager will provide expert support in the lead up to the construction phase, including in the development of contracting strategies, tendering and negotiation of contracts. During the construction phase, the Contracts Manager will support the on site delivery team with ensuring that the major works contracts such as the TSA and EBoP contracts are being correctly administered and managed, as well as providing support with payment matters and any commercial matters which may arise. The role will require close collaboration with Bute Energy’s internal legal team and appointed consultancies, as well as the wider project and engineering teams. Travel to our Cardiff and Edinburgh offices will be required from time to time in addition to supply chain and project sites in Wales occasionally. This senior role requires an experienced and qualified contracts manager with prior onshore windfarm construction phase delivery experience and familiarity with the management and administration of multiple forms of contract, such as FIDIC and NEC. Main Responsibilities Providing construction phase contract management input to the development of contracting and procurement strategies and associated documentation such as invitations to tender, contracts and employer’s requirements. Supporting the project teams during the pre-construction phase and in preparing for contract management during construction. Working closely with project and legal teams to provide contract management input to contracts to ensure these are in a form which best supports effective and efficient delivery of the project, and maximises value and mitigates risks and liabilities to Bute Energy. Contract negotiation, prioritising value for Bute Energy whilst establishing and maintaining relationships with the supply chain that provide long-term benefit. First point of contact on site for supporting the project team and managing contractual and commercial matters, primarily with a view to dispute avoidance and mitigation and avoiding undue delay and additional costs to projects. Leading any claims and contractual negotiation disputes which arise on site. Reporting, including development of summary and performance reports and metrics as appropriate to varying levels throughout the organisation and up to Board level. Expert cost estimation and delay analysis knowledge to facilitate assessment of any claims. What we look for in return Knowledge & Skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Expert in the application of NEC and FIDIC contract forms with a strong working knowledge of contract law. Strong negotiation and influencing skills. Maintain an efficient manner throughout periods of increased pressure, and be accustomed to a fast-paced working environment, acting with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines spanning multiple and complex projects. The ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships across the business and with contractual counterparties. Good understanding and observance of professional ethics, including confidentiality and conflicts of interest. Experience & Qualifications Degree qualified in quantity surveying, construction management or a related discipline with a commercial background. Ideally a MCIPS or RICS qualification will accompany this On-site construction delivery experience on onshore windfarm projects. Track record of similar work, ideally in the renewable energy sector. Proven capability in both pre-construction and construction phases of major projects with a desire to join a market disruptor and make a real difference on the drive to net zero with a passion for renewables.
