Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
At Scottish Water, we look after Scotland’s most precious natural resource. From source to tap, we’re guarding Scotland’s reputation for refreshingly pure water and caring for our environment at the same time.
As we move through the current investment period, Scottish Water expects to spend up to £1 billion per annum on our capital programme, increasing investment to ensure we can replace or upgrade ageing assets and support the move towards achieving our strategic ambitions. The Commissioning and Handover (C&H) Team is to ensure the effective and efficient commissioning and handover of our assets as they’re delivered to our operational teams.
We are looking for a Senior Engineer with a strong Control System background to join us. You’ll work in partnership with Scottish Water’s Delivery Partners, supply chain, and a variety of internal Scottish Water teams to ensure effective commissioning support and governance at a project level.
What you’ll do
You’ll play a critical part in ensuring smooth commissioning and handover processes. Your responsibilities include:
1. Assuring commissioning plans, reliability and performance testing.
2. Ensuring all necessary evidence and documentation are in place.
3. Supporting operational impact assessments and planning by engaging with key stakeholders.
4. Identifying, managing, and escalating commissioning and handover risks, issues, and hazards.
5. Overseeing key governance controls, including approvals for Asset Start-up and Water into Supply.
6. Providing feedback on commissioning performance data and offering assurance during the handover process.
You’ll collaborate closely with our Capital Delivery Partners, Scottish Water Customer Service Delivery (CSD) Operations Teams, and other key functions across Scottish Water to deliver outstanding results and ensure alignment across all stages of the commissioning process.
What you’ll need
You’ll need extensive experience and in-depth working knowledge of Control Systems, including SCADA, PLC, and HMI. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills are a must. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to manage your workload effectively, prioritising tasks to meet deadlines. A full UK driving license is also required.
Although it is not essential, a good understanding of the water industry, including water and wastewater processes, is advantageous. Familiarity with the operation and maintenance requirements of infrastructure and non-infrastructure assets will also be beneficial.
Looking out for you
You’ll get 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays), with options to buy five more. We embrace flexible working and have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave.
For your future, there’s our pension and life assurance. You can expect an annual company bonus and access to SW Splash for handy rewards.
The not-so-small print
This role will be a Grade 7 with a starting salary of £41,000, progressing to a maximum of £51,970.
If you’re interested in this role, we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on January 12, 2025.
A few final things worth knowing…
If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We encourage candidates with disabilities or neurodiverse conditions to ask for adjustments in our recruitment process.
As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland.
Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
Working at Scottish Water you'll be making a real difference to the lives of the people and communities in Scotland who rely on our vital services.
