About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Electronics Engineer to join our growing Engineering team at NPL. Reporting into the Principal Engineer, you will play a vital part in stretching our capability and taking our research to the next level. In this hybrid role you will spend approx. 2 – 3 days a week on site in Teddington, and 2 – 3 days working remotely. As our Senior Electronics Engineer, you will provide specialist expertise in instrumentation and automation systems design, whilst being responsible for assuring compliance with legislation and standards of products provided by NPL. Your work will have a tangible impact on our business and the UK as a whole. You will work with a team of professionals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives, celebrating the unique contributions that everyone brings to the team.
As a senior member of the team, you’ll supervise those with less experience – sharing your knowledge and motivating them to do better. As an expert in your field, not only will you provide everyday design solution advice, you’ll also provide a consultancy service as needed across the department.
What you’ll be doing:
1. Identifying and assist in capturing customer requirements
2. Designing automation, instrumentation and safety systems and products
3. Transferring requirements into designs and specifications
4. Installing, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning automation systems
5. Sourcing and testing instrumentation to prove suitability for application
6. Preparing design risk assessments
7. Issuing electrical wiring and interconnection drawings using CAD
8. Managing and maintaining system documentation
9. Checking designs and documentation for correctness and compliance with standards
10. Working with suitable suppliers of equipment, services, and material
