Leeds and York Partnership Foundation Trust (LYPFT) delivers adult acute inpatient care across the Newsam Centre and Becklin Centre. We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Occupational Therapist to join our Adult Acute Inpatient Service. The role is ward-based, and the postholder will provide Occupational Therapy specific skills and expertise alongside an MDT approach to care. The service uses the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) as its model of practice and MOHOST and MOHO single observation are the primary assessments used. The service works with people who are in an acute period of crisis in their Mental Health. Occupational Therapists are well placed to assess the social and physical environmental factors that impact on an individual's mental health, and this will feed into the ward team's care plan. Although Acute Inpatients is a Mental Health Service, we do work with a number of people who have physical health co-morbidities, and an OT's skills would be used to assess whether any adaptive equipment is required either whilst in hospital or upon discharge, to support independence in ADLs and meaningful occupations. The Senior OT will also support managing the OT team on the ward including supervision, supporting preceptorships/rotations and delegation of clinical work. The role is permanent but we are also looking to recruit a secondment to cover maternity leave, so please specify in your application which post you wish to apply for.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work within the MDT to provide assessment, treatment, and discharge planning. They will utilise Occupational Therapy theory and evidence-based practice to provide effective treatment to individuals admitted to the ward. The post holder will work autonomously and provide specialist assessments which will form part of team formulations and treatment decisions, and through the use of person-centred interventions enable recovery and support effective discharge from hospital.
In addition to providing 1:1 assessments and interventions the post holder will have oversight and support the Activity Coordinator in establishing an effective group timetable that facilitates the growth of functional and social skills.
The post holder will also contribute to ongoing service development within the wider OT team. This will include supervising band 5 Occupational Therapists, delegating responsibilities where appropriate and working jointly to develop the Band 5's skills and knowledge.
You will be supported in your personal and professional development via clinical supervision, yearly appraisal, training and other Continuing Professional Development opportunities.
As a service, we believe that Occupational Therapy is not just a 9 to 5 provision and do work to provide a 7-day service, which includes weekend and late shift cover. We strongly recommend contacting the service prior to making an application.
