Here at Rainbows Children’s Hospice, we provide specialist palliative care and end-of-life support to over 750 Babies, Children, and Young People living with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, as well as approximately 3,000 people, including families, siblings, and carers, across the East Midlands. Simply put, we’re here to brighten short lives and support families, wherever they are.
To help us maintain a safe and welcoming environment, we’re expanding our Estates & Facilities Team and seeking a Maintenance Rep/Handyperson. In this role, you’ll be responsible for carrying out minor repairs, ensuring safe working practices, and conducting statutory checks.
Due to expansion, we are currently seeking a Maintenance Rep/Handyperson to join our Estates & Facilities Team, to manage and carry out all minor repairs, ensure safe working practices and carry out statutory checks.
This role will be based at the Hospice on Lark Rise in Loughborough. You may need to travel to the retail shops to carry out any minor repairs or supervise contractors carry out work therefore a driving license is required.
This role will be 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday. You will be part of the 1 in 4 on-call rota covering evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
About the role
As a Maintenance Rep/Handyperson, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring our hospice remains a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment. Some of your key responsibilities will include:
* Minor Repairs – Carrying out maintenance across plumbing, joinery, electrical, engineering, vehicles, play equipment, and internal decoration.
* Planned Maintenance – Managing scheduled maintenance, decoration, refurbishment, and small rebuilding projects.
* Contractor Liaison – Overseeing external contractors, ensuring their work meets hospice standards and policies.
* Painting & Decorating – Handling all types of redecoration, including wallpapering, painting, varnishing, and exterior finishes.

Essential Requirements
* Competent in minor property maintenance issues/ plant/ electrical/ engineering/ plumbing/ grounds maintenance
* Knowledge of current Health & Safety legislative requirements
* Experience of dealing with the public (adults and children)
* Experience of Managing Contractors
Desirable Requirements
* Qualification in PAT testing
* Experience of pool maintenance
* Painting and decorating experience
