HNTB Project Manager - Highways in Chelmsford, Massachusetts
What We're Looking For
The timing couldn’t be better! Join HNTB as Highway Project Manager in our Massachusetts office. We are looking for an engineer that is experienced and knowledgeable in roadway design to coordinate and deliver transportation engineering projects within scope, budget, and time schedules from initial start-up through project closeout. These projects can range from small intersection and multimodal corridor improvement projects to large interchanges, multimodal improvements, and bridge reconstructions. Projects can be either traditional delivery or Design-Build.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing HNTB's delivery of the largest and most complex transportation projects in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. You will be a technical expert and leader that can help win and deliver on highway and other transportation projects for our public transportation agency clients. Candidates should be able to share their experience with others in a way that promotes the development of less experienced staff and improves the performance of the whole team.
What You'll Do:
1. Responsible for development of the project scope and fee quotation and assists in the preparation of technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).
2. Serves as the primary client liaison and manages the project team to deliver the scope, schedule, and budgets to completion and to the client’s satisfaction. Assists with client project scoping and contract negotiations.
3. Performs technical discipline tasks including analysis, reports, design, specification, and production for assigned projects.
4. Implements the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project. Leads the development and execution of the project management plan. Supervises and mentors team to overall project objectives.
5. Performs coordination with managers on project staffing, including, but not limited to; recruitment, development, retention, and succession of project staff; development of plan for project staff reporting; and support for performance and compensation reviews.
6. Partners with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, building client relationships, and pursuit efforts for strategic and mini-mega projects in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA). Works with the project team and marketing resources to prepare appropriate proposal and presentation materials. Leads proposal development and interview presentations for strategic and mini-mega projects to the client as well as general presentations within the industry and community.
7. May be responsible for the recruitment, hiring, development, and retention of staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need:
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience
* 2 years task management or Deputy PM experience
What You'll Bring:
* Provides technical advice, mentoring, and support for HNTB management and staff.
* Interacts with clients regarding projects, technical matters and industry trends.
* Can problem solve on complex transportation assignments.
* Manages projects and/or serves as engineering lead on projects.
* Has a significant breadth and depth of technical experience in transportation engineering.
* Develops concept-level design solutions for corridors, intersections, and interchanges.
* Has proficiency delivering projects for MassDOT.
* Enjoys opportunities to advise and guide staff throughout the design stages, including time devoted to mentoring and growing skills of less experienced staff.
* Provides technical guidance as requested on complex or unusual engineering projects.
* Evaluates designs and analyses for completeness and fit.
What We Prefer:
* 10 years relevant experience
* Professional Engineer (PE) certification
