A private school for boys aged 3-18 in Gosforth, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Catering for 360 students and teachers over 3 locations. We offer a core feeding of lunch with some hospitality. This is a term-time only contract working 39 weeks a year, Monday to Friday.
We are looking for a motivated Food Service Assistant to join our team at one of our prestigious locations in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Role requirements (Task & Responsibilities):
1. Prepare food for service, following good hygiene and safety practices and to the standard specified.
2. Ensure the kitchen is left clean and tidy to the required standard of the Chef Manager or to the Hygiene standards set by the company / Client.
3. Clear, clean and store away any food, beverage or equipment required for special functions.
4. Restock and replenish stocks and consumables as required during service periods, to achieve optimum customer service delivery.
5. Operate cleaning, dishwashing equipment. Properly clean and store equipment, service, preparation and storage areas.
6. Complete all / any necessary cleaning/hygiene duties.
7. Interact and acknowledge all customers and client staff.
General Responsibilities:
1. Ensure attendance to all staff meetings as required.
2. Ensure that all policies and procedural requirements of both legislation and company are adhered to in order to promote a professional and flexible approach at all times.
3. Ensure that the correct uniform is worn neatly and cleanly at all times.
4. Ensure all necessary checks are carried out in the service and associated areas for food temperatures.
5. Carry out all reasonable request of the management.
6. Be conscientious with regard to Health & Safety and report any hazards to the manager.
Key personal skills and attributes:
1. Previous experience of working within a busy kitchen environment (preferred).
2. Someone who enjoys working with fresh food and is prepared to support with the preparation of salads, sandwiches etc.
3. Previous experience of serving customers within a catering establishment (preferred).
4. Team working abilities, listening skills, the ability to work on own initiative, impeccable personal presentation, hygiene and behaviour to others, Food hygiene certificate preferred.
5. The ability to be adaptable and be flexible as necessary. Reliable, honest and able to demonstrate an open attentive approach to customer service.
6. Willingness to learn new skills and take some responsibility.
7. Ability to manage some moderately heavy lifting, carrying, and pushing.
8. Ability to demonstrate reasonable / good understanding and use of verbal English.
9. Ability to demonstrate reasonable / good standard of written English and reading skills.
10. Similar experience of customer and / or food preparation environment is preferred.
