An exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed Band 3 Occupational Therapy Support Worker to work as part of our acute mental health, inpatient occupational therapy team at Mill View Hospital, in the vibrant city of Brighton and Hove.
You will be based within the Home First team on our later-life ward, working alongside a qualified occupational therapist to provide occupational therapy assessment and a range of 1:1 and group interventions to older adults with mental health needs. You will work with patients for up to 6 weeks following discharge to support the transition back into the community, contributing to safe and effective discharges.

Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for designing, planning and delivering a range of prescribed therapeutic programmes to individuals or groups of patients/clients within an overall care package. You will be involved in assessing, evaluating and reporting on patient responses to prescribed therapeutic programmes from an Occupational Therapist. You will maintain a specific caseload of patients/clients in community and in-patient settings, working closely alongside the Home First OT.
Job responsibilities
* To work under the guidance of an Occupational Therapist in the delivery of clinical interventions using a range of technical and creative skills to engage clients in occupational activities.
* To monitor the client progress, taking account of their environment and adjust clinical interventions accordingly with supervision from an Occupational Therapist.
* Under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, facilitate and participate in planned group work, individual activities and ongoing continuous assessment.
* Contribute to occupational therapy assessments e.g. Activity of Daily Living Assessments (ADL) and treatment plans under the guidance of an Occupational Therapist.
* Under supervision of an Occupational Therapist, provide a range of activities, instructing and guiding clients with more complex needs to support them in achieving identified occupational therapy goals.
* To carry out community/home visits as directed by an Occupational Therapist and report on the outcome.
* To contribute to the generic tasks of the team as directed by a registered occupational therapist.
* To actively promote service user driven O.T interventions within a recovery approach.
* Have a basic working knowledge of the medication prescribed for the persons in their care, including usual dosage, common side effects and the need for any special monitoring.
* To form professional relationships with clients and communicate with them in a way that respects their views, autonomy and culture.
* To report effectively to the local clinical and occupational therapy team on a client's performance and progress in the areas of self-management, productivity, and leisure.
* To demonstrate effective communication skills with people.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* A recognised qualification in an area related to the workplace or equivalent technical/life skills.
* Evidence of a commitment to lifelong learning.
* Health care or relevant NVQ level 3 or equivalent skills.
Knowledge/Experience
* Experience of working with people with mental health needs in a paid or voluntary capacity.
* Experience of working with people with mental health difficulties.
* Experience of being supervised.
