“Berkeley Site, situated just north of Bristol city, covers 27 hectares of special scientific interest on the bank of the River Severn. The Site finished generating electricity in 1989 and is currently in the decommissioning phase.
Priorities at Site now include removing all legacy wastes, emptying the active waste vaults and demolition and deconstruction of the majority of the buildings and facilities to ultimately return the site back to green field status and re-use.
The System Engineering team is made up of highly skilled professionals across a range of engineering disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, E, C&I) with the responsibility of maintaining the sites plant systems. They provide a focal point of engineering expertise and ownership for a portfolio of assigned plant systems and assets with high nuclear, radiological, environmental, and business significance.
You’ll deliver comprehensive engineering services to customers and stakeholders, maintaining long term safety, performance, reliability, material condition and compliance in this highly regulated sector. You’ll also provide the intelligence for complex engineering solutions to high profile projects by supplying a high level of technical knowledge and experience.
This role offers a mix of hands-on fault investigation, first line fixing and managing the long-term plant health of site assets.”
Please note this role is based onsite at Berkeley Site. The contractual hours are Monday to Thursday, 07.25 - 17.00, perfect for someone looking for a four day week.
Key Deliverables
* Provide the focal point and ownership for a portfolio of assigned systems and/or assets.
* Maintain an engineering strategy for the assigned systems and/or assets to deliver long term health.
* Make recommendations for system and/or asset investments.
* Carry out and record routine system walk downs.
* Record, trend and analyse system performance monitoring data as appropriate and take the necessary corrective actions.
* Maintain a system file.
* Specify the necessary periodic maintenance routines and spares holdings to meet regulatory, compliance and performance requirements and ensure satisfactory completion.
* Maintain a good overall knowledge of the safety case as it applies to the assigned systems and know the functional requirements, key limits, and conditions for safe operation.
* Produce and/or approve relevant documentation for assigned systems such as Technical Specifications, Work Instructions, Method Statements, Plant Item Operating Instructions, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments.
* Produce and Manage modification proposals and act as the Nominated Responsible Engineer (NRE) for plant modifications.
* Act as a consultant for projects undertaken on assigned system providing proactive technical support and ensuring smooth handovers to and from projects.
* Deputise for Section Head when required.
* As a customer-focused individual, the post holder will be expected to support delivery within his or her range of skills, knowledge, experience, and competence.
* Comply with the site’s Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality policies, procedures, work instructions and risk assessments and support the continuous improvement of Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards.
* Work flexibly within the team and support and mentor other System Engineers to optimise the safe delivery of all specified Lifetime Plan activities to the required quality, time, and cost parameters.
* Carry out timely investigation of events and review on-site and off-site events via the Operational Experience Feedback process, ensuring that relevant learning points are applied to assigned systems.
* Undertake delegated responsibility for the Design Authority and site intelligent customer when required.
* Undertake emergency scheme duties when required.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential: -
* Minimum HNC in engineering or equivalent level (NQF level 4) engineering qualification, engineering degree (NQF level 6 preferred).
* Experience in a practising disciplined C&I Engineering role on industrial plant.
* Nuclear and/or conventional plant operation, engineering or maintenance experience.
* Understanding of relevant Company and/or national engineering standards.
Desirable: -
* Membership of a relevant Engineering Institute (Incorporated Status).
* Chartered Status.
* Working knowledge of the safety rules and of risk assessment methodology.
* Working knowledge of relevant site licence and quality management system requirements.
* Contract management experience.
