We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Commercial Lead, you will be responsible for leading and executing key commercial strategies that drive revenue, market expansion, and long-term business success. This role is ideal for a motivated, strategic thinker with a strong background in business development, sales, and commercial operations.
Day to day duties:
Proactively lead the delivery of commercial advice and commercial activity across the full commercial lifecycle from commercial strategy to contract exit, ensuring approach is informed by GBN objectives and commercial risks
Ensure that all members of team (including advisors) are aware of their individual and collective responsibilities and their output contributes directly and aligns to GBN's priorities and objectives.
Apply the skills of supporting, coaching, enabling, and facilitating to create and develop more leaders.
Develop individual and collective leadership skills and develop non-technical skills: interpersonal, team and relationship.
Develop and maintain the pipeline and contract register for portfolio, ensuring proactive engagement with stakeholders to ensure oversight.
Work collaboratively with other stakeholders and functions, including colleagues in Finance, PMO, Legal and Technical to provide a seamless service offering.
Adopt the role of Intelligent Customer ensuring that stakeholder needs and expectations are met.
Establish effective methods to learn from experience and to mitigate future risks.Principal Duties:
Lead the development of the contract strategy and the proposed procurement route for all requirements within remit.
Develop commercial strategies and negotiate terms and conditions that ensure GBN commercial position is protected and that any amendments are compliant with governance.
Support regular commercial reporting required by DEZNZ, GCO and legal obligations.
Contribute to the enhancement of GBN commercial capabilities via effective engagement with stakeholders and through supporting the development of the GBN Commercial Directorate.
Support the development of the cost estimate for all procurements within remit.
Lead a small team to provide commercial support and intervention across the full lifecycle for contracts, memoranda of understanding and grants, acting as the first line of defence.
Promoting collaboration and sharing of best practices across GBN, DESNZ GCO.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:
UK public sector specific knowledge and experience is preferable
Evidence of experience across the commercial lifecycle, from requirement development through to post-contract management
Demonstrate a track record of leading and working as part of a Commercial Team procuring and administering complex contracts
Highly developed commercial skills and demonstrable ability to make sound decisions on matters of high financial value in order to secure value for money
Proven understanding of procurement, contract performance measurement, risk management and change management.
Evidence of influencing senior stakeholders and/or suppliers to support commercial solutions in a complex commercial environment
Demonstrate ability to successfully build capability within a commercial function.
Evidence of a background in major infrastructure/the nuclear sector is desirable
IT proficiency with common office software packages as well as commercial systems is preferable
Qualifications:
Educated to degree level is essential
CIPS/IACCM/RICS qualified is desirable
