The Position:
Dewey Group are pleased to be working closely with a reputable piling contractor to recruit for a permanent position in their new offices located in the West Midlands. The role will primarily involve supporting the estimation process for various piling projects, including key infrastructure developments. Job Description:
As a Junior Estimator, you will report directly to the Associate Director of Design & Estimating and play a vital role in supporting the estimating process for both one-off schemes and ongoing piling projects. You will be expected to interpret a range of technical documents, including bills of quantities and client drawings, to provide accurate piling price estimates. The role is client-focused, requiring you to engage with clients to understand their needs and provide tailored proposals.
Key Responsibilities:
* Interpret specifications, architectural/engineering plans, and specification drawings to determine the scope of works.
* Review and interpret Ground Investigation Reports to identify potential risks within the ground and propose appropriate installation methods.
* Check the tender requirements against the company’s governance procedures and align with the Sales and Commercial Strategy.
* Work with the Contracts Team to conduct site inspections for tender understanding, risk assessment, and identifying any activities that may not be reflected in the tender documents.
* Develop accurate and comprehensive tender submissions that incorporate company-specific requirements.
* Maintain ongoing communication with clients throughout the tender process, tracking progress and updating CRM systems.
* Assist in identifying risks when tendering for new projects and liaise with the Commercial and Contracts Teams to address these concerns.
* Support the HSEQ, Commercial, and Contracts teams with Pre-Qualification Questionnaires.
* Develop and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring high levels of service and satisfaction.
Mandatory Estimating Skills:
* Experience in interpreting specifications, drawings, and ground investigation reports.
* Understanding of piling installation methods for sheet steel, king post, driven, or bored piles.
* Ability to communicate complex technical details clearly and effectively.
* Proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
* Some knowledge of CAD software used in the tendering process is desirable.
* Strong numerical and data manipulation skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
* A proactive, client-focused approach with a flexible work ethic.
* Full driving license required for occasional site visits.
Additional Skills and Qualities:
* Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
* Knowledge of The Construction Design Management Regulations 2007 & 2015.
* Project management skills and familiarity with MS Project would be advantageous.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work within a team.
* Ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
Qualifications and Experience:
* BSc/MSc in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, or equivalent.
* Experience in a civil/geotechnical engineering or piling background.
