The Opportunity
Due to projects ramping up, our client is currently seeking to recruit an experienced Instrument Designer to join their dynamic team of pharmaceutical specialists based in Macclesfield, Cheshire.
Duration: 6 months+, ongoing contract
Location: Macclesfield - 3 days per week on-site, 2 days from home
Rate: £42/hr - £48/hr LTD
This role has been deemed outside IR35 but is dependent on a full status determination assessment.
The Role
As the Senior Instrument Designer, you will work closely with the Multi Discipline Design Team and Project Manager supporting the efficient and effective delivery of pharmaceutical projects. You will have the responsibility to support the local projects team through provision of Electrical & Instrument Design and Consulting Services.
Projects within the current portfolio will include:
1. Extensive flow and pressure monitoring project.
2. Upgrade of effluent plant to PLC control.
3. Upgrade of process plant to DCS.
Your duties and responsibilities will be:
1. Review and assess customer needs.
2. Provide resource estimates for design-related activities.
3. Produce reports, scope of works, concept design and detailed designs (Typically RIBA2-4).
4. Support effective delivery of projects to time, quality, and cost targets together with the ability to multi-task and prioritise.
5. Produce documentation in accordance with defined standards/quality requirements.
6. Liaise with design and equipment subcontractors.
7. Interface with other disciplines such as Mechanical, Process, HVAC and Civil.
This position requires significant interface with the client and the client's Installation team. To meet these requirements, it is recommended that as the Senior Instrument Designer you attend the Macclesfield office 3 days per week.
Qualifications and Experience
You will have the following qualifications and experience:
1. Extensive experience (at least 5 years) in a relevant design role including successful delivery of electrical installation designs within projects for the pharmaceutical sector.
2. This role will require a high level of autonomy and strong communication skills.
3. HNC or Degree in a technical engineering related subject.
4. Membership of a professional Institution or similar body is desirable.
5. Experience in UK pharmaceutical construction projects is desirable but not essential.
6. Experience of E&I design best practices.
It's great if you also have the following:
1. Project life cycle experience (Concept through detail design to construction support).
2. Knowledge of data and administrative management practices and procedures.
3. Sound experience and knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015.
4. Undertake site surveys.
5. Possess collaborative skills and experience working as part of a multi-discipline team.
6. Possess ability to work in a team or alone, comfortable to liaise with client representatives.
7. Extensive experience of hazardous area design.
8. Strong communication and organisational skills.
9. Provision of 2D Design Deliverables, GAs, equipment layouts and cable/containment routing diagrams.
10. Cable Block Diagrams.
11. Instrument Loop Diagrams.
12. Honeywell BMS Interface Diagrams.

The Setting for the Role
Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a pharmaceutical and chemical site. These can include noise, slips, trips and falls (high-gloss floors), mechanical hazards, extreme temperature and humidity, pressurised equipment, radiation, chemical, biological, explosive atmospheres, working at height and confined spaces during cleaning maintenance and repair.
