About us At the Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice and community nursing services across Berkshire West, we look after people living with life-limiting conditions and offer support for families too. About the Role Being a chef in a Hospice is about more than preparing meals. Food can be a source of joy, even in difficult times. A chef in our hospice has the privilege of creating meals that patients will enjoy, rekindling memories of favourite dishes or flavours associated with happy moments. This is an opportunity to have a positive impact on our patients physical, emotional, and even social well-being using your expert skills in the kitchen. You will work closely with our Head chef and catering teams and some responsibilities include but are not limited to: Ensuring that all food is correctly and safely prepared, stored, and well presented. Recording of all information such as food temperatures and cleaning schedules. Ensuring the safe and smooth running of the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef, you will be expected to maintain a safe working environment, maintain service user confidentiality, and occasionally taking on reasonable additional tasks. About you Our ideal candidate will have similar professional experience in a hospice or health and social care environment. Due to the nature of this role, experience of catering for people with dietary needs such as fortified diets, food related contraindications and swallowing difficulties is highly desirable. You will have a passion for and dedication to providing a personalised and compassionate service to people when they need it most. To join us as a Chef, youll need: Level 2 Food Hygiene or higher NVQ or SVQ Level 2 General Catering or equivalent Previous experience of working in kitchens Demonstrable skills in cooking for large groups of people and an ability to cater for varying dietary needs. Knowledge of regulations, e.g. COSHH, Health & Safety, HACCP Ability to work as part of a team.
