The preceptorship programme manager plays an important role in providing leadership support for practice development within the trust and a unified approach to embedding fundamentals of care into all areas of practice development.
This will be an opportunity to support the clinical educational lead in the planning and delivery of corporate and trust wide projects in support of the nursing, midwifery and AHP strategy.
The preceptorship programme manager will provide leadership to our corporate based clinical practice educators to develop our preceptorship programme, preceptorship support and clinical practice across the trust. Preceptorship at PAHT is multiprofessional and we ensure appropriate support to nurses, midwives, AHPs and health care support workers (HCSW) so that they are equipped to deliver the highest standards of evidenced-based clinical skills through empowerment, education, and assessment.
Main duties of the job
The preceptorship programme manager will collaborate with the divisional based practice development nurses, AHPs workforce and education leads and many other key staff members to support the development of nursing staff ensuring that care delivery at PAHT is safe, responsive, effective, well led and compassionate.
The preceptorship programme manager is an experienced senior nurse who must be able to interact with our multiprofessional workforce at all professional levels. The individual is expected to represent the corporate nursing team and support clinical staff to understand the strategic direction of the organisation with particular emphasis on how a well led preceptorship programme can improve patient safety, patient outcomes and patient experience.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Lead the development of multiprofessional preceptorship training programmes to meet the identified development needs of our staff, facilitating the delivery and evaluation.
2. Deliver a programme of multiprofessional preceptorship for all new registrants working in the Trust.
3. Provide formal teaching sessions to facilitate learning that results in continued staff development.
4. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, particularly those related to the nursing, midwifery and AHP workforce, to ensure that the Trust objectives are achieved.
5. Provide support to ward managers and matrons in delivering the quality and safety agenda through the risk management strategy, including the undertaking of risk assessments.
6. Act as a role model, always working in accordance with the NMC and HCPC codes, Trust policies and guidelines.
7. Support our OSCE programme lead in the preparation of International pre-registration nurses for their test of competence (OSCE) in order to attain NMC registration.
8. Participate in the development of enhanced nursing skills within all levels of nursing.

Education and Qualifications
* NMC Registrant
* Educated to degree level (or equivalent)
* Knowledge of nursing education and development
* Experienced practice assessor/educator experience (or equivalent)
* Professional Advocate
* Further evidence of post qualification and/or CPD training with an educational, leadership or project management focus
Experience
* Experience at Band 6 or above in an acute nursing or midwifery field
* Experience supporting learners (of all levels) in practice
* Experience of governance processes to support safety and quality in service delivery
* Experience of innovating and managing change
Skills and Knowledge
* Demonstrate knowledge of care quality commission regulations and key national NHS drivers
* Knowledge of wider professional issues and national agenda
* Knowledge of nursing education and development including developing and implementing monitoring standards using a competency-based approach
* Demonstrate communication skills including inter-personal skills, liaison and negotiation skill, and writing and presentation skills
