An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Advanced Practitioner (Biomedical Scientist) in Cellular Pathology to work in the role of Specialist Scientific Lead in Tissue Dissection and Sampling in Cellular Pathology.
This is a full time role which will require an element of flexibility on a day to basis. You will provide expert advice and opinion to colleagues both inside and outside the department as and when necessary, and participate in research when requested.
The post holder must have gained the Diploma in Extended Practice in Histological Dissection and have at least two years dissection experience and maintain competencies associated with the role.
This post is within SHYPS working for York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will be expected to attend work at Cellular Pathology in Hull.
As Specialist Scientific Lead in Histological Dissection and sampling you are responsible for supervising and performing a wide range of complex scientific procedures which result in interpretation of biological samples that contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases and the investigation of other pathological processes.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of a designated function of the laboratory; i.e. histological dissection, and will have in depth scientific knowledge of that discipline.
You will train and motivate staff to meet service requirements and turnaround times. You will be directly involved with the development and review of Standard Operating Procedures within their designated area and also undertake analytical, technical and administrative troubleshooting to ensure reliable service delivery. The post holder will be expected to have upheld the professional standards required by registration with the Health Professions Council (HCPC) over five years and provide evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD). You must also have experience of compliance with standards as required within work duties such as United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) ISO 15189 Standards and other relevant professional and legislative bodies.
Subject to contract and competence assessment, you may discharge analytical duties either working alone or as part of a small team ensuring a comprehensive laboratory service.
