Manchester CPGC service is for patients with a suspected solid tumour cancer, requiring specialised intervention and management. Patient samples for genomic testing will either be derived from the existing MFT internal workload or be referred by regional pathology laboratories in other trusts.
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated Advanced Biomedical Scientist, you will be experienced and operating as a Biomedical Scientist in Histopathology, in line with ISO 15189 standards, providing scientific services to customers and patients to aid pathological diagnosis.
As the Advanced Biomedical Scientist, you will work with the Lead Biomedical Scientist and the Cellular Pathology Directorate Manager, to ensure that the planning and day to day running of the department, ensuring that leadership is available, day to day and on a long-term basis.
The post-holder will also support the Lead Biomedical Scientist to provide leadership and support to the Biomedical Scientists and Support teams and will have the experience and knowledge to provide highly complex and specialist advice to Histopathology teams, you will utilise this knowledge to continually review the effectiveness and efficiency of the department and implement innovative developmental improvements and redesign as appropriate.

This post is for an Advanced Biomedical Scientist in the Cellular Pathology Genomics Centre. Suitable candidates will be enthusiastic, aspirational and highly motivated HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with extensive post registration Histopathology experience.
Candidates must be in possession of an IBMS specialist portfolio in Cellular Pathology and obtain MSc level or equivalent. A working knowledge of quality management systems and ISO15189 standard is essential.
The department will prepare tissue for the North West Genomics Laboratory Hub to deliver combined DNA-/RNA- NGS panel analysis according to the NGTD.
You will perform immunohistochemistry and undertake neoplastic cell content assessment on tumour tissues prior to Genomics testing, and participate in the Tissue-i EQA scheme
Ensure the highest scientific standards are maintained and to contribute to the improvement of technical and scientific standards within the department.
Demonstrate extensive use of personal judgement based on advanced experience and knowledge to ensure correct decisions are made by Biomedical Scientists and support staff on all aspects of specimen processing, microscopy and test interpretation that may directly affect patient care and management.
In conjunction with the Lead Biomedical Scientist, support the management of daily functions of the department in accordance with MFT policies and procedures.
