In line with the philosophy of the clinical area, the post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for the service user, in conjunction with other staff.
The post holder will work in close collaboration with other professionals, including the wider Multi-Disciplinary Team (Nursing, Psychiatry, Psychology, Allied Health Professionals and Arts Therapies) in assessing service user's needs, devising care plans and evaluating outcomes that promote service user empowerment through the process.
The post holder will act as a positive role model and contribute to the professional development of junior staff while consistently demonstrating Trust Values.

Main duties of the job
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
The post holder will:
1. Work as a registered nurse with a special interest in Learning Disability, Autism and mental health wellbeing for people with learning disabilities.
2. Have a key role in ensuring the smooth running and co-ordination of the shift.
3. Be responsible for maintaining clinical standards under the direction of the charge nurses and team leader and work as a Named Nurse.
4. Work in liaison with service users, carers, other professionals and co-operatively with other services, ensuring the delivery of a needs-led service.
5. Work as part of the Trust shift rota across a 24 hour shift pattern.
6. Carry out and advocate professional specific interventions.

Job responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The post holder will:
1. Fulfil the role of Named Nurse, actively supporting adults with a learning disability who are residing on the unit to improve their physical, mental and emotional health through person-centred assessment and treatment.
2. Improve the lives of people with a learning disability by minimising the impact of their condition through the delivery of excellent services to promote recovery and wellbeing.
3. Support others in the team including associate practitioners, healthcare assistants and students as appropriate, to develop competence by providing leadership, day to day supervision and clinical advice.
4. Advocate for and promote a positive image of people with a learning disability.
5. Ensure statutory requirements of the Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act are observed and applied.
Clinical Responsibility
The post holder will:
1. Work collaboratively with service users, carers and families to deliver nursing assessment and then plan, implement and evaluate identified interventions, with a view to improving physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
2. Carry out clinical nursing procedures/techniques in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
3. Implement and promote evidence-based clinical processes and standards of practice within the inpatient unit.
4. Facilitate individual therapeutic sessions to achieve identified health outcomes for service users in accordance with assessed needs.
5. Develop and review a range of comprehensive and evidence-based clinical risk assessments and associated care plans.
6. Provide written reports as necessary for service user reviews and MHAT tribunals.
7. Ensure the administration and safe custody of drugs and medications in accordance with Trust policy and procedure, as well as NMC guidelines.
8. Regularly assess and report on the side effects experienced by service users.
9. Comply with and promote the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Professional Conduct.
Leadership and Staff Management Responsibility
The post holder will:
1. Lead by example, promoting positivity, commitment and motivation within the wider team.
2. Act as a role model to service users, carers and other professionals.
3. Provide clinical supervision as per Trust policy.
4. Support both the mentorship of student nurses and the preceptorship of newly registered nurses in accordance with the NMC and university requirement.
5. Participate in the induction and training of others, including the mentoring/co-mentoring of students.
6. In consultation with the Charge Nurse and Team Leader, set and review performance objectives for Health Care Assistants and other staff where appropriate.
7. Managers have a duty to promote and support staff's personal health and wellbeing at all times.
Person Specification
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/TRAINING
* Relevant Professional Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
* Demonstrable commitment to ongoing training and development.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
* Knowledge of common physical, mental and emotional health needs experienced by people with a learning disability.
* Experience of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care according to assessed need using person-centred approaches.
* Experience of risk management.
* Experience of working with people with learning disabilities or complex health needs.
* Experience of using assessment and screening tools to support analysis and make formulations and recommendations based on this.
* Working knowledge of legislation and policy relating to learning disabilities.
* Experience of maintaining high standards of recordkeeping consistent with legislation, policies and procedures.

Salary: £29,970 to £36,483 a year, Per annum, Pro rata
