An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Nursery Nurse or Play Specialist to join the Paediatric Cardiothoracic Team to cover a 12 month maternity post.
The successful candidate will be based on the Paediatric Cardiology ward, which incorporates a 6 bedded high dependency unit, and will provide care to children from birth to 18 years of age with a range of medical and surgical needs including mechanical support. They will also cover the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit if required.
37 hours 30 minutes/week
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a light hearted, enthusiastic and motivated Nursery Nurse to join our team, and provide high quality care in a safe, caring and stimulating environment.
You will work alongside a Play Specialist and Nursery Nurse and manage your own workload. The play team provide play programmes to long term patients, support children during difficult procedures by using distraction therapy, and overall ensure their stay is as fun and relaxed as possible.
This is an exciting speciality with many opportunities to gain and develop new skills and experience.
Job responsibilities
* To assist in therapeutic assessments and carry out play programmes for children and young people in hospital, according to their individual needs and as part of the overall care plan.
* To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of play using reflective practice to achieve best outcomes.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Education
* NVQ Level 3 in Childcare or equivalent (e.g. NNEB BTEC Nursery Nurse qualification)
* Evidence of on-going professional development
Knowledge & Experience
* Previous work in health care setting
* Experience of caring in a personal or professional setting
Skills & Abilities
* Ability to work effectively under direction or part of a team
* Ability to work independently
* Good interpersonal skills
* Good organisational skills
* Able to manage time
* Basic IT skills
