They are seeking a meticulous and proactive Bookkeeper to join their talented team, ensuring smooth financial operations, compliance, and efficient management of duty payments for our spirits production and distribution.
Financial Operations & Compliance
* Process and manage payments to suppliers, distributors, and other stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
* Raise and track invoices, managing accounts receivable and debtor collections.
* Maintain accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
Excise Duty & HMRC Compliance
* Oversee all aspects of alcohol duty compliance, ensuring timely and accurate submissions to HMRC or other relevant authorities.
* Calculate and process duty payments based on alcohol production, movements, and sales.
* Maintain up-to-date records of duty-paid and duty-suspended stock, ensuring compliance with bonded warehouse regulations.
* Prepare and submit monthly and annual duty returns, reconciling duty liabilities with stock movements.
* Liaise with regulatory bodies, ensuring the business remains compliant with current excise duty legislation.
* Stay updated on changes in duty regulations and advise the business on potential financial implications.
Stock Control & Finance-Warehouse Interface
* Work closely with the warehouse and operations teams to track stock movements and reconcile against financial records.
* Ensure accurate recording of bonded and duty-paid stock, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.
* Monitor and report on stock discrepancies, investigating and resolving any issues.
* Assist in managing stock valuations and ensuring correct duty liabilities are applied.
Reporting & Management Information
* Prepare and maintain accurate financial reports for management review, including duty payment forecasts.
* Assist in monthly and annual financial reconciliations, ensuring accuracy in reporting.
* Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management, factoring in duty liabilities.
What We're Looking For
* Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar finance role, ideally within the alcohol or spirits industry.
* Strong knowledge of bookkeeping principles, accounting software, and Microsoft Excel.
* Experience managing excise duty payments and compliance, particularly in the spirits or alcohol industry.
* Understanding of bonded warehouses and duty-suspended vs. duty-paid stock management.
* Excellent attention to detail, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
